Digital camera reviews of Shure E2c Sound Isolating EarphonesDigital camera Review: Absolute Garbage. Worst sounding headphone ever! Summary: 1 Stars
These were recommended by the Store Personel, but he admitted he had returned his first pair due to lack of Bass. I was told it took 3-4 hours of play for the Bass to synch with noise isolation system. After 10 hours of use these still have less bass than any of the "el cheapo" headsets I have ever owned. The sound spectrum is extremely unballanced. Sorry, but Shure does not get another shot at my $100.
Digital camera Review: Absolutely the best!! Summary: 5 Stars
I am a medical transcriptionist, and these headphones are absolutely perfect for me. I had them at my last place of employment and I miss them so much. They were the absolute best earbuds ever. They were easy to put in, easy to take out, sounded great, blocked out exterior noises wonderfully and were, simply, the best. I am hoping to get another pair because I loved them so much.
Digital camera Review: Accidentally In Love Summary: 5 Stars
As a college student/musician/audiophile, shopping for ear buds is a painful experience. You want the best, but you can only afford the sub-par. After my stock iPod earbuds (which are pretty good) were eventually destroyed by my continual gym-going, running, and backpack-related abuse, I decided it was time to upgrade.
Most searches were disappointing, I kept finding the only highly regarded headphones were $50 and above, which puts decent earbuds fairly low on the priority/necessity list (right above German beer, PS2 controllers, and enormous jugs of Utz pretzels).
Discouraged, I packed up the search, borrowed my girlfriend's iPod buds for the gym, and lived my classroom commute in silence. Deep in frustration, I did what any sensible college student would do - I went to a frat party.
Long story short, I woke up the next morning downing V8, honey, vitamin C, aspirin, and comic quantities of Deer Park. When I checked my email, I found 6 eBay bid notices, a win confirmation, and a Paypal receipt. Apparently my idea of drunken debauchery is obsessive, relentless, needless amenity bidding. I say that beats out the typical stop sign-stealing, cat calling, destructive antics usually surrounding youthful intoxication. Good for the community, bad for me.
Anyway, 7 days later, my Shure E2c's arrived at my doorstep, and I anxiously tried them out, hoping my inebriated wisdom would pay off.
They delivered. That is, after trying out three different pairs of the included ear canal inserts and working out how to wrench the damn things in, they delivered. The sound is so good, I find myself listening to the music at a lower volume, because the sound is so full. The noise cancelling inserts do the trick, and I'm no longer cranking the tunes to hear the bass response over background. I go to the gym and run more often just to listen to these wonderful things. I go to class more often. You might say, these earbuds improved my life. I've tried out my friends' Bose earbuds, as well as others' more expensive Shures. In short, while those models may beat mine for sheer clarity, the extra price hike is not warranted. I'm continually astounded by these things' comfort, bass response, high-end clarity, and durability (so far).
I whole-heartedly recommend these to any audiophile on a budget. I find they're the best bang-for-the-buck buds out there. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some Warsteiner-drinking, pretzel-crunching, iPod listening Crash Bandicoot mastering to do.
Digital camera Review: Adrressing Why no right left on Headset and other negatives Summary: 5 Stars
Everything has been said about this model and I'm in agreement with the positives.
So I'll address the negatives.
1. The lack of labeling on left and right side.
Actually there is a reason for this. On this headset there is no left or right. There are two ways to wear it. One is over the ear in which case you want the wires that are connected to the buds to be on the top. On the other hand if you wear it the traditional way with the cords going down than you'd insert on the other side.
2. the unit comes with these little screens that you paste into the stem so that you can change them when it gets blocked by earwax. This is a great Idea every pair of earphones I've ever had got gunked up. With this model I was able to just change the little screen
3. Size of the inserts. I'm in agreement that the size of the rubber inserts is too large initially. But I found that in a short time they molded to my ear and were comfortable.
4. Like so many other reviews I am impressed by the thickness of the cable and the appearance of durability.
Digital camera Review: After one year of use... (then updated five years later) Summary: 5 Stars
Last summer I purchased these as a splurge prior to moving overseas (Egypt) for a teaching post. They really are as nice as people say, particularly if you've grown accustomed to the white iPod earbuds. They are very comfortable, and block out sound so well that occassionally I would use them solely as ear-plugs (you'll wonder how you ever flew in a plane or rode in a car with children w/o them). After one year of wearing them everyday the wires did begin to short, and eventually they died. I went into a period of mourning, before returning stateside last month and upgrading to a pair of E3c.
Update: 5 years later...I'm still a big Shure fan. I'd say I've probably purchased four pairs, each time upgrading. The thing I like is the company is excellent about replacing the earphones when they develop a short in the wire (this seems less of a problem now than in previous years). Print out your receipt from Amazon and send in the phones, and they'll send you back a new pair.
