Digital camera reviews of Shure E2c-n Sound Isolating Earphones (Black)

Digital camera Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

These are by far the best headphones I've ever bought. They take a little getting used to but once you figure it out they're great. This is my second set (the first set stopped working for some reason). You can even mow the lawn and the sound of the mower is blocked by the earpiece just like if you had earplug in your ears.

Digital camera Review: Excellent Quality
Summary: 5 Stars

I've owned Shure products before and this one has lived up to their high standards.

Digital camera Review: Excellent for the business traveller
Summary: 5 Stars

I've owned these headphones for about a year now, and purchased them when they were at the $99 price point. I use them mainly for business trips, and have been very pleased. The sound quality is excellent, they block most but not all of the airplane noise even though they are not necessarily active noise canceling headphones. I have used them with the iPod, iPhone, and PSP with no crackling or other issues. They are the first headphones I have used that allowed me to hear the PSP on a plane, which is quite an accomplishment. They are very durable, the case is great, and the assortment of tips for a personalized fit is great. My only negative impression is that the replacement tips can be hard to find, and are ridiculously expensive.

Digital camera Review: Excellent sound but some construction problems
Summary: 4 Stars

Shortly after receiving my Shure E2c-n headphones I used them with my I-pod Nano for about an hour and was quite pleased with their performance. Later, however, when removing the earpieces from my ears I realized that 1/2 of the left earpiece casing was still stuck in my ear. Though it came out quite easily I could not get the earphone casing to go back together. I had thought about trying to glue it myself but decided just to return the earphones to the Shure Repair Department in Niles, IL for repair or replacement. I am assuming that this will be accomplished with no further problems.

Digital camera Review: Excellent sound, but the cord kills it
Summary: 3 Stars

I can confirm what a previous reviewer stated -- the cord gets rigid over time, and eventually cracks, exposing bare wire.

They sound excellent. I wouldn't call myself an audiophile, but certianly an enthusiast (I can tell the different between $500 and $1500 speakers, if not $20,000 and $50,000 speakers). Something about the shape of my ear makes traditional earbuds hurt terribly, so I fell in love with so-called canalphones like the Sony Fontopias. In fact, they were the first I ever had. Not as good as a proper set of cans, but certainly the best portables I'd ever used. Problem -- those silicone sleeves disappear in no time. I went through three pairs before I discovered these -- bought them, despite costing three times as much, because I was able to get additional sleeves. Ironically, it's the ONLY pair of canalphones I've ever owned whose sleeves NEVER disappeared. Not sure if it's because they actually came with a usable case, which I actually made some use of, or because they seem to have a tighter fit, but that was definitely nice.

The sound quality, as others have said, is good. Better than the Sony's, I think, though I was never able to do a side-by-side. The jack is sturdy, but a bit large for my tastes -- doesn't fit well with today's sveldt electronics. Minor complaint, though. No, it's the cord that gets me. Well, the way you have to stick them in and wrap the cords up and around your ears kinda bugged me, but mostly because the cord itself is stiff. Even new, it's stiff. But over time it gets worse. Eventually, and apparently I'm far from alone in this, it gets so stiff that it cracks and splits. I have bare wire and uncomfortable plastic edges right against my ear. I've stopped using them because of this. It's really a shame. Despite their relative clunkiness, I really liked these 'phones, especially the availability of replacement sleeves.
