Digital camera Review: A Good Deal
Summary: 4 Stars
This has been the primary lens on my Digial Rebel (first generation) and is now on my Rebel XSI. I find it is great for travel and its long focal length is perfect for outdoor shots from a distance. I tend to switch to the 18-55 kit lens from the XSI when indoors (when I think of it) but have been very happy with the results even when I have not made the switch.
The only negative is the weight and tendency for the lens to extend on its own due to its weight if the lock is not used (and who wants to switch that every time?).
Anyway for the enthusiast like me this is a perfect lens. For the professional, look to Canon's L-series with the same range but for about $2,000 more - and please buy a spare one and send it my way!

The AF 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 MACRO lens covers all the focal lengths from 28mm wide angle to 300mm telephoto with 10.7:1 high zoom ratio as well as macro capability. This lens packs a lot of performance in a compact package with ultra compact dimensions (Diameter 74mm and Length of 86mm) that make it the ultimate traveling companion. Its the ideal lens all types of photography and optimized for digital SLR cameras. The new multi layer lens coating and lens design reduce flare and ghost. SLD Glass elements and Aspherical Lenses in both front and rear lens groups provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations and distortion. The 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 DG MACRO lens has a minimum focusing distance of 19.7 at all focal lengths and is equipped with a macro mechanism for close-up photography at 300mm telephoto, allowing a reproduction ratio of 1:3. An Inner Focusing System is designed to allow for stability and compactness in design as changes in focus are made in an internal lens grouping. This also gives the advantage of a non-rotating front lens assembly, which is ideal for using a circular polarizing filter and Petal-type hood. The lens is equipped with a zoom lock to prevent the lens from zoom creep due to its own weight.Accessories
