Digital camera reviews of Sima SL-20IR Night vision Video Light (Black)

Digital camera Review: Cheers, & Jeers, for Sima
Summary: 3 Stars

The Sima SL-20IR is a great improvement from the 10IR. One is sufficient to light up two entire rooms indoors unlike the 10IR (I have not tried it outside yet). My guess would be an illumination distance of 30-50 feet. The lighting is more of a Flood-like effect, unlike the Sony HVL-IRM which is more like a "Flashlight"-type illumination. However, that's where the positive characteristics end. The 20IR is capable of up to 45min.s of continuous IR lighting, and requires over 2hours to recharge. I bought two of them, so between the two I can shoot for approx. 1 1/2 hours (with the camera's small IR light to help on the last 5 min.s or so). I've been using a Sony Handycam DCR-HC28 with Nightshot. The short illumination time is further hampered by it's recharge time .... OVER 2 HOURS!!!
In short, I'd much rather prefer the Sony HVL-IRM infrared light (see my review of this product). In my line of work as a Paranormal Investigator, changing lights every 45 min.s is just aggravating, though the "Floodlight"-type effect does have its benifits. I have relegated these two SL-20IR to the job of enhancement/emergency use.

Digital camera Review: Don't buy if your camera/camcorder does NOT have night vision
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this Sima IR20 because (like a nut) I read some reviews that said if you can see the infrared light on a remote control with your camera and/or camcorder then this Sima will work with your equipment. BIG mistake! Both my camera and camcorder could see the infrared light on a remote control, but when I tried to use the sima light I could not see any improvement at all. Let me make this perfectly clear, the poor review I gave this product is NOT because of the product, its because I ignored the most important piece of information which is "DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT UNLESS YOUR CAMERA/CAMCORDER has NIGHT VISION capability". "Low light" capability and "night vision" capability are two different animals. It also doesn't matter if your camcorder can see 1 or 2 lux light, if it doesn't have NIGHT VISION CAPABILITY, it will not work with this product. So don't be fooled by people who say that if your camera can see the infrared light on a remote then this Sima will work with your product. IT WON'T! In general, I'm not sure specifically WHICH cameras/camcorders has this feature but if yours don't SAY "Night Vision" or something very similar to this statement then don't think it will work on your equipment.

I know I repeated myself several times in this review, but my intention is to save you the time and aggravation of waisting your money on "wishful thinking". I'm glad Amazon doesn't have a disclaimer on refunding people's money due to peoples "hard-headedness". I'm giving doing business with Amazon.com 5 stars!

Digital camera Review: GOOD PRODUCT
Summary: 4 Stars

This item is only working with Night Light Mode equipped on your camcorder. Please note, you only get ONE unit for the price and don't let the stock photo foooooool you because you won't get visible light either. However, it works fine and great help in a very dark condition WITH your Night Light Mode turn on.

Digital camera Review: Good for the price.
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great product, for a great price. The quality of this device really depends on the type of camera you have. I must say; with this IR light, my paranormal group will have many more investigations to conduct.

Digital camera Review: Good ir light
Summary: 4 Stars

This light seems to be well made and I expect to get years of use from it. It illuminates very well, giving off a 'flood' type light. The only downside is the built-in, rechargeable battery. There's nothing actually wrong with this battery and it works well enough, but I would have preferred if it took disposable batteries. But hey, that's just my opinion. Again, it's a good light, it does what it's supposed to do and does it pretty well.
