Digital camera Review: Good Price and Reliable
Summary: 5 Stars

500GB - came pre-formatted NTFS. Installed the backup software and using it for the first time. It backs up based on file extension and has some of the popular ones pre-configured. You can even configure it to back up a particular directory of set of directories. The one button backup is great!

Digital camera Review: Good Product
Summary: 3 Stars

Its a good product. Very fast and queit. I backed up my entire hard drive to simple tech and it only took up 20% of the drive.

The Only problem is that one touch back up botton. It will downsload every thing including cookies from the internet store on your computer. It will not organize your hard drive. Every thing is just place in one folder. That is a mess! And you cant access that info unless download everything back on your PC.

But if you just click, drag and drop, there will be no problem. and Access is easy, Just click and open.

Overall I like it.. no problems yet. I had it for 4 months now.

Digital camera Review: Good Value
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased 2 of these hard drives, a U35/500 and a UF35/500 (which has the Firewire connection), since they seemed to be good value for money. I have only had them a few months, but so far no problems. They installed easily on my computers (Windows XP) and the included software seems pretty straightforward. Initially, I thought there was a problem with the UF35/500 model, because when I switched it on nothing happened and there was no red light from the on/off switch. However, after about 10 seconds, the light came on and the drive spun into life. There is always a similar delay when I switch that machine on.

Digital camera Review: Good choice, but has a physical security lack
Summary: 4 Stars

Very stylish, quiet and fast. However it doesn't have a Kensington lock slot, needed in most corporate environments.

If physical security is not a concern for you, it is a good choice.

The activity LED is tricky but I think it is a design inheritance.

Digital camera Review: Good value, somewhat slow, annoying blinkiness
Summary: 3 Stars

The drive works fine off the shelf and in dollars per byte I can't argue with the value. Transfer times are fine, what you'd expect from USB 2, but latency can be a real problem -- several seconds. If you're moving a hundred gig you won't care, if you're trying to open one file it might get noticable.

The principal design failure of the device is an incredibly annoying array of brilliant blue LED's on the top of the case, that flash in irritating procession whenever the drive is in use. Good grief, it's a disk drive, not the marquis centerpiece in Times Square. Go way and do your work quietly like a good little drive now.

One warning: I tried twice to make the SimpleTech drive a TrueCrypt-encrypted partition (all 500 gig) and both times it failed hard on the second or third day of use. Running w/o TrueCrypt I've had no trouble.
