Digital camera reviews of Simran SMF-200 Deluxe 200 Watts Step Down Voltage Converter for International Travel to 220V / 240V Countries ~ Ideal for Blackberry, Laptops, iPods & Phones etcDigital camera Review: Don't push the wattage! Summary: 2 Stars
For just charging the laptop battery, it ran hot but worked OK for 6.5 hours.
Next day, with the laptop and a small external monitor plugged in (6amps total) it fried after 1.5 hours. I do have a massive laptop (cadd workstation).
As stated above, there is no fuse protection on these, they just die.
Digital camera Review: Don't take this if you'll need it for more than 2 weeks Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this product for a two-month stay in Europe last summer. It worked well for about two weeks, but then, it would only work if I held the plug in the converter at a certain angle. After about 4 weeks, it started sparking whenever I plugged things into it, and that was the end of that.
To be fair though, I did abuse it somewhat. It specifically says on the box not to use it with items that heat up (such a blow dryers, irons, toasters, etc.), and I admit that I used it to plug in my straightening iron.
If you need it for heated items and plan on using it for a while, I would suggest you get something else. Actually, even if you're not heating anything up, I still suggest you get something else. My suggestion: go to Brookstone.
Digital camera Review: Exactly what it claims to be Summary: 5 Stars
This product worked flawlessly. It's small, well built and tough. However, it's not fused! I read several negative reviews. Nearly all of them complain it burned out trying to provide MORE POWER (over 200 watts) than it's built for. This is perfect for (most) laptops, camera and cell phone chargers. It WILL BURN OUT trying to push blow dryers, curling irons, multiple external peripherals to a laptop, etc. Volts times amps = watts. It will only support 110 volt devices that draw at TOTAL of 1.8 amps or less. Read your labels before buying!!
Digital camera Review: Excellent product Summary: 5 Stars
Quite satisfied with this product. I was worried that it would overheat especially since I plugged in my laptop, cell phone, and IPOD pretty much all day long. It performed flawlessly. I highly recommend it.
Digital camera Review: Excellent reliability Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product in 2002. Its still running for six years. I've kept it turned on for days together. Never heats up and has never let me down. Wonderful product.
