Digital camera reviews of Skullcandy Full Metal Jacket Earbud, 11mm - MacSilverDigital camera Review: Not bad, although the imagery would have us believe otherwise Summary: 4 Stars
I don't normally buy into the image of merchandise, in this case a cartoonish skull and the punk-rock attitude snow-boarders are known for. Punk, BTW, should stem from what's between the earbuds. I digress. I've owned 4 or 5 sets of earbuds in the $20-$30 range, and evidently I'm quite hard on them, despite only using them 4 to 8 hours a days for 250 days a year in a relatively peaceful factory-like setting. Past buds have always seemed to go out 45%, leaving me to wiggle the plug so both work if I hold it just so. Sometimes they break in 4 months, sometimes in a year. I've had Sony, J Buds, V Moda Bass Freq, and briefly the Apple ones. I even tried traditional headphones but I prefer earbuds for my uses. I've only owned these SkullCandy buds for 1 month so I can't speak on the durability of them, although I would hope that the effort of contracting machined aluminum housings in 4 places would spill over to equate to a long-lasting overall quality. Sound-wise, they leave a lot to be desired. It's all a bit muddy, and bassy tracks blur the definition of the rest of the spectrum. Treble is as crisp and sparkly as a freshly dug handful of worms, which is to say...non-existant. Mids are dull. I guess it is fortunate I am using these more frequently for audiobooks than music as in the past, but $25 ought to buy better sound. Metallica's ...And Justice... sounds much less produced usual, which is disappointing; Johann Strauss' Thunder and Lightning's cymbals sound like a baby's mobile; SRV sounds emotionless; closing one's eyes to Shine on You Crazy Diamond is pointless without mids and treble; and AntiFlag sounds only mildly irritated. The buds come with a spiffy little case that I'll probably never use, and 3 sizes and 2 types of ear inserts. Nice thought. The transmission of vibration through the wires is as bad as with any other earbuds. The length of the cord and the length of the Y section are perfect, but I would prefer that the wire and insulation were more limp. As it is they still hold the shape they did the moment I unpackaged them. Maybe that means they'll last longer. If you're still reading this, I apologize for the length. I just wrote a paper and I guess I'm still in the draw-things-out-to-meet-the-word-count-requirement mode. Must be the wine. Punk-rock wine, I assure you.
Digital camera Review: OK But... Summary: 2 Stars
The Good:
1. Sound is OK. Kind of tinny but the bass presence is nice.
2. A total "seal" is not required for these to sound decent.
3. They kick over my Bose earbuds.
The Bad:
1. They broke after 6 months.
2. The stiff cord is pretty noisy.
If these had lasted, I'd be pretty happy. Alas, they did not last. Hence two stars.
Digital camera Review: Skullcandy unresponsive to defective product Summary: 1 Stars
FMJ 11mm is less than a month old ... round netting at end of one earbud is missing (obviously fell off) ... package says DON'T RETURN THIS PRODUCT TO THE STORE. CONTACT US DIRECT AT SKULLCANDY INC ... i did, TWICE, no response whatsoever ... VERY VERY disappointed with level of service and quality of product ... would not buy again and certainly would not recommend to others.
Digital camera Review: Sounds great! Summary: 5 Stars
Got these because I lost my Shures. The Shures were the sub-$200 ones I picked up a couple years ago. These sounds at least as good if not better. They fit in my ears better and dont fall out. The inline volume control is nice too. Not too tinny, good bass for buds. I enjoy cranking hem!
These are a great value. I recommend them!
Digital camera Review: Sounds rather FLAT. Summary: 2 Stars
I got these when they still cost $70 and now their true worth is being highlighted by Amazon. It's been about six months. They come with fittings for all sorts of ears and when I first heard these I thought maybe it's just the weather or something and these weren't that good. These have only become worse with time. I am not sure why. I never really caused any physical harm to them and they look worn out. When you spend a fortune on earphones, you expect something better. They seemed OK in the first few months but now they are not even usable. I thought something was wrong with my ipod touch. I've also tried using them with my Dell laptop and Dell desktop and the sound has a bit of a weak 2nd grade ear phone sound now.
While I know a lot of you seem to go by the majority of the reviews here, I would definitely not recommend these cause my first hand experience has been just terrible. My search for good earphones or rather the best in-ear earphones continues. I shall abstain from buying earphones for a while now...these are really worse than the Apple ipod earphones to me now. The volume never quite got loud enough. Look for Creative ones maybe. If you do find the perfect earphones, do let me know about it. Will I buy Skullcandy again? Probably yes. These were just terrible for me. I like bass and this one seems to be obviously bass deficient. Terrible mistake buying these.
