Digital camera reviews of Skullcandy (Product Out Of Date, Newer Version Available) INK'D Earbuds (Black)Digital camera Review: Comparable to E2c SUREs !!! Sound quality Excellent !!! Summary: 5 Stars
If you know anything about IN-THE-EAR headphones and what to expect from them, you would appreciate the SkullCandy Buds.
Ive had A LOT of experience with IN-THE-EAR "plug" "bud style earphones" (see my other reviews on Sony MDR-EX90LP($99)in-the-ear, V-MODA (gun metal) in-the-ear plugs($99) Sure Ec2, KOSS(KOSS coil engineering is VERY good- good for budget phones) because I commute in the train and subway in a big city.
I HATE the feature called "exhaust port" "BASE port" "AIR vent" in the BACK OF THE EARPHONES, no matter how expensive they are.
The existence of hole in the back of an earphone speaker means that they are absolute crap when it comes to filtering the ambience of the RAIL / Subway.
The less subway noise hits your eardrum the better for your health. (In most cases you can tell when phones have poor sound isolation - just look out for the HOLE in the back !! Not good for your eadrum's health....
Seems having an airtight case will impact the response of the membrane. Well, me and my buddies at work tested different earbud headphones listening to the same song with HIGHs and LOWs (f.e Karmah - "Just Be Good to Me" spin off from Police "Every breath you take".) and the difference in sound response across speakers is shocking..
For example compare these and JVC Earbuds! The superior Sound Range of ScullCandies is obvious!
Digital camera Review: Crappy for even rock bottom price Summary: 1 Stars
Had a pair of Sony EX MDR-EX32LP earbuds which I picked up in Japan for about $25 USD. They were great, but got swiped by the night janitorial crew at work. So wanted cheap replacement pair and bought these for $15 at Circuit City. Sound fine if you're a statue, but move around and you hear every bump or rubbing of the cords transmitted through the earphones. I saw the same Sony model 3 weeks ago at Circuit City for $15 and regret not buying them since they only had fuchsia in stock. Don't bother with these SkullCandy turds! I'll have to leave them out at work and pray these get stolen too. UPDATE: bought Sony MDR-EX32LP earbuds new on Ebay for about $11 (including shipping) - highly recommend buying these instead!
Digital camera Review: Decent Summary: 2 Stars
These headphones sound and fit great. I got them as a replacement to my iPod headphones and they are easily 10 times better. Unfortunately, there are a few downsides to them.
The cord is coated in rubber, and since the headphones are in-ear, any slight movement by the cord sounds VERY loud. Even just tapping on the cord sends a vibration up to the headphones. Because of that, I really wouldn't recommend them for running, or any real physical activity.
Another thing that bugged me was neither earphone is marked left or right, so you have to memorize which is which. Not a big deal, just kind of annoying.
My one real complaint is I purchased mine in October, it is now February and in four months the left ear is already starting to malfunction. My iPod headphones lasted me about a year and a half before they broke, and that was with a lot of use. So in short, these aren't very durable at all. Amazon says these come with a Lifetime Warranty, but I can't find anything about that on SkullCandy's website and I don't remember anything on the packaging about any warranty. Maybe it's something new through Amazon (I bought mine at an FYE). Anyway, just be careful of wear-and-tear and the earphones will hold up fine.
In short, these are very good sounding headphones for their price, but not good for exercise at all.
Digital camera Review: Decent bang for the buck Summary: 4 Stars
Revised 3/8 - You know I thought these were awesome, but the quality really brings me down. The current set that I own are losing audio in and out of the left ear after a few months use.. annoying. I said it didn't matter in my initial review, but you know, it does matter. I don't want to return these after a few months of use. These do provide great bass and volume, but sound fidelity and quality are lacking (the s3s discussed below are better in this regard). I'll lower my score by a star. Still impressive for the price - but seriously, they're just wires - check the solder points or something, these should last more than a few months (this is my 3rd pair with similar issues).
Original review:
I have been going back and forth from the same sound source comparing these to the Klipsch s4s that cost $90 and I can't help but like the sound of these better. These fit me better, have fuller, louder sound, and cost 1/8th the price. The only problem I have had with these is durability. This is my 3rd pair, having two break on me after about 6 months use each.
The latest pair that I received seem to be a different revision and feel more durable. I'll see if that holds true. Anyway, at this price, I really don't care.. and Skullcandy replaced my first pair free of charge. I highly recommend these buds.
Digital camera Review: Decent comfort but poor sound quality Summary: 2 Stars
Although these earbuds are comfortable enough, they provide tinny sound quality AND make clicking and scraping noises every time you touch the line that connects the iPod to the earbuds. I'm happier with my less comfortable, but much better sounding, original equipment iPod earbuds which have better sound quality (particularly in the low end) and don't make the evil clicking and scraping noises. My advice: save your money and buy something else. I'm still looking for reasonably priced earbuds that have good sound quality and are form-fitting to my ears.
