Digital camera Review: A cakewalk!

Slingbox is a great cheapo alternative (150.00)to owning many TV's in those places like home offices and kitchens. Why should I hire 3 more cable boxes and buy TV's when I can use my PC's. Easy setup, great quality and great navigation makes this product great.
The cons- only one user can view it at a time...Another words, you cannot broadcast to all PC's.

This is a really great product for viewing your Sat TV or cable on the road, but really dependent on your UPLOAD speed. The documentation says min 256KB but that is barely enough. I have 385 and the picture is still slow. I would recommend faster.
Setup was really difficult, but most of that was due to my old (not Plug and Play) router.
The online help was great though. They were super friendly and great to work with.

When I found out about the SlingBox, I had to have it. I was going to be away for a while, and I wanted to be able to get all the channels I get at home from where I was going to be. I also loved the feature that would allow me to watch on my cell phone, but I wasn't really sure how good the quality would be.
First, for the setup. As long as your router is near the device, setup is very, very easy. The software guides you through it and it's pretty hard to make a mistake.
The video quality is very good when you're watching on another computer. As long as your on a computer with a broadband connection, even if it's not a great broadband connection, you get good quality video from your home cable box. My upload speed at home is good, but from where I use the SlingBox mostly, the broadband connection is rather slow and shared by a lot of people, but the video is still pretty seamless.
Then, for my favorite part. My cell phone is one where SlingBox Player is available for it. So I installed it not really knowing what to expect. I was very surprised. On my Sprint pocket PC device, the quality is very good. Where EVDO is available, which is pretty much everywhere I've been, you can watch TV like you normally do. Of course the screen is small, but as long as there is EVDO, the video appears without hesitation for the most part. I've watched a number of baseball games on it, and they look very good. Sound is perfect. Just one suggestion, if you're going to watch a complete program, like a baseball game, you're probably not going to have enough battery in your phone. Make sure you have an AC adapter or a car adapter or something to provide your phone with more power.
Bottom line: If you want to watch TV from a computer anywhere in the world, or watch TV from your cell phone, this is pretty much a no-brainer. You need to get this product.
Digital camera Review: AWESOME! - if you have the right router

First off, this is a really cool product! It does just what it says it does. you can watch tv on your computer. It is very easy to install, and it walks you right through even if you don't know much about computers.
When I first got this I had an Ativa router. The software loaded and worked, but my router would not let me watch it outside my home network. But the thing was so cool that I just watched it in my home network. After a few months, my router went out on me and I had to buy a new one. So I checked the compatible routers on the software and purchased the Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster.
I couldn't get this router to work with the slingbox at all! After a while of frustration and checking online, I finally figured out that
there is a small reset button on the back of the unit itself. After resetting, everything worked fine. Now I can get on my slingbox in my home network or outside my home network and it was very easy to set up.
I really just use mine as a toy. If you travel alot and are places where there is a hotspot to get online, you can watch tv just like you are at home. Don't forget, you need a dedicated source. I have mine hooked to
the cable box in the bedroom. If you hook it up to your main tv and you are away watching tv, the person watching that tv has to watch what you are watching.

I'm a gadget guy, and this is the most incredible item I've purchased in years! Absolutely seamless install, their website even had specific instructions for my router!
The installation is quick, easy. No surprises. The video is as smooth as watching a real TV. If you go into full screen mode, you may see some degredation of picture quality.
I downloaded and installed the program for my PDA and it works just as well. Even at work, through our corporate network the image is as good as on the LAN at home. Same for wireless.
The only problem I had was that the receiver I am using for the Slingbox was set to use a remote control that had a device address other than #1 (DishNetwork DVR). At first the remote control in SlingPlayer would not control the receiver. As soon as I changed the device code for the IR remote to #1, everything worked fine.
My advice: Buy this unit. You won't be sorry.
