Digital camera reviews of Sling Media Slingbox PRO-HD SB300-100

Digital camera Review: Comcast User
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this because I have Comcast HD DVR and wanted to watch my shows on the road. Well for some reason the slingbox doesn't work off the HD inputs. I had to use the S-video input. The Comcast DVR menu doesn't show up on the slingbox screen on my computer, but shows on TV. I would stick to the cheaper model.

The video quality is not good. Even at home and I am MAXing out on bandwidth. I have to admit though it works pretty good on my iPhone, but you have to purchase the app for 29.99.

It is an OK product, but very disappoint in what was promise vs. what is delievered.

Digital camera Review: Content not matching the description on the box
Summary: 1 Stars

I got it a few weeks ago but since Amazon is not willing to help me get the right transformer, I have not been able to use it.

It was printed on the box that the transformer shall be 110-240V, but I was supplied with one only works with 110V. I asked AMAZON for help but the answer is I have to deal with it myself. This is what Amazon is offering!!!!! Please be careful if you consider ordering something from Amazon.

Digital camera Review: Couldn't be happier with my purchase
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this product because I travel between Las Vegas and New York/New Jersey a lot. I just recently installed Verizon FIOS service in Jersey and wanted to be able to stream this content when I am in Las Vegas. My experience with the box has been wonderful.

Now it is true that this product does not have HDMI and it only supports 720p/1080i resolutions, but guess what? No station broadcasts in 1080p anyway. Also, things don't have to be pass through. You can connect the cable box via HDMI to your TV while also connecting the Slingbox to the cable box via the component cables and a digital audio cable (sold separately) or the standard audio cables included (red/white cords).

In Jersey I have a desktop computer with an HD video card, and it's connected to my Sharp Aquos LC52D85U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV. The resolution is beautiful, not as sharp as watching the cable box natively, but it has the added benefit of a 60 minute buffer. It's like a mini-dvr ability.

Anyone contemplating getting this device, I say contemplate no more, it's a smart buy.

Digital camera Review: Customer support is a joke
Summary: 3 Stars

The Slingbox itself is a great product. It is made by SlingMedia which is owned by EchoStar, who also owns DishNetwork. You'd think that getting the DishNetwork receiver to work well with a Slingbox should be easy. Not so much. They force you to buy a converter for $50, which doesn't even help the situation. Finally I decided to do it myself and it works well, without the converter. However, from time to time, the Slingbox loses it's network settings. Don't bother calling Slingbox support, because they'll charge you to even discuss any issue. There's no chance of talking to management, unless you first purchase an extended warranty over the phone. And to top it all off, they'll just hang up on you anyway. EchoStar, SlingMedia, and DishNetwork all need to take some lessons in Customer Service!
As for the quality, if you have a good internet connection on both the sending and receiving ends of the transmission, the video and sound are great. If not, there's a slight lag and the sound/video suffer for a little bit, but it works itself out of that.

Digital camera Review: Died before 2 years of use.
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this item just under 2 years ago and it had been working great. I did have to power cycle the unit a few times a year as my TV display would suddenly have artifacts - but I could live with that. However, the other day I noticed some unusual flashing of the network and Sling Logo LEDs. I tried to access the SlingBox and the player could not find the SlingBox on my network. I tried power cycling, holding down the reset button, and a whole bunch of other debug attempts with no luck.
I did do an Internet search and saw that some people believe that some SlingBox units have either bad power supplies or capacitors that go bad. Those who mentioned capacitors say that a few are bulging and after replacement the units start working again. I opened my SlingBox and did see that a few of the capacitors have somewhat bulging tops. I may attempt to replace these caps soon to see if it does any good.
In any case, 2 stars for a relatively short life.
