Digital camera reviews of Smartparts SPX8 8-Inch Syncpix Digital Picture FrameDigital camera Review: Excellent pictures for the last 4 years! Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned 2 Smart Parts digital picture frames for 4 years and 2.5 years respectivly. They run all day, every day. I used to turn them off at night, but it has been years since I bothered. I am very pleased with them. The ones I own are the SPX8 and the SPX7E.
Yes, the company is just assembling components from other manufactures. However if you know the electronics industry, you know this is common. And they probably don't have much in the way of customer support. On the other hand, this is a $100.00 photo frame, just how much support is really needed? I have never called Smart Parts, so I do not have any first hand experience of their customer service.
The frames are easy to use and the picture quality is excellent. The frame has several "folders" that you can store photo albums in. That allows you to keep your Christmas photos in one folder and vacation photos in another and switch between the two. I also use one of the folders to keep all the pictures in so I can see them all scroll by instead of just the photos from vacation, Christmas or whatever.
The auto-sizing software also works well. Yea, it takes a while to resize 500 photos. Be patient grasshopper. It is worth the wait.
Recently, the older of the 2 frames (the SPX8) stopped working. Since I have both, I tried plugging the power cord from the other one into the SPX8. Sure enough, the problem wasn't the frame, but the 12 volt power cord. It was harder than it needed to be to find a 9VDC 2A power adapter with the 5.5mm plug. I found one at [...]. Their part number is 1952847 and the cost was $15.95. I thought that was pretty reasonable for a frame that has been on for over 1200 consecutive days. I got the new power adapter last week and the frame is running non-stop again. The link to the exact part I ordered is below.

Others may have their complaints, but I have found these frames to be of good build quality and excellent picture quality. I would not hesitate ordering another Smart Parts frame.
Digital camera Review: FILLED with Problems Summary: 1 Stars
I have been preparing old photographs for my parent's anniversary for weeks, and was ready to load them into a beautiful digital frame. Bought this unit at local [...]for a very good price of[...] but the upload and operation was a nightmare. The unit just stopped mid-function, it shut itself off numerous times, and the remote was defective. This technology has been around for enough years that it ought to be a simple process and have the electronic bugs worked out. Not a great item. I can only image the problems my elderly parents would experience, and deny them the opportunity to enjoy years of old photos. I'm going to continue looking and find a better frame.
Digital camera Review: Failed after 1 year of use... Summary: 1 Stars
Like other reviewers have reported, our picture frame worked fine for about a year and then the screen flickered and died. There's no life in it now.
Digital camera Review: Fantastic Resolution; Great Value Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this frame based on a review from Consumer Reports, and it has definitely met and exceeded my expectations. The display is crystal clear and bright...fantastic resolution. It was a great buy considering all of its features.
The only warning I'll give is that the menu took some getting used to, but it's really easy to use now.
Digital camera Review: Finally success after 3 failures! 2 perfectly working frames! Summary: 3 Stars
I've been trying since Mother's Day (May) to get a working unit. After 3 failures, I now have 2 perfectly working frames. Here's a clue: if it doesn't immediately load your photos and then start a slide show, you have a bad unit. It's really that simple if your unit is good. If it doesn't sync up, add more photos, and automatically resume the slide show, you have a bad unit. Don't waste anymore time on it. Send it back and get a replacement. There's a high out-of-box failure rate, but a good unit is awesome.... The instructions say "plug in the unit, turn on the power, then insert memory card." I found success when plug in the memory card first, then power up the unit. I don't know if it makes a difference, but it did for me. I love this frame. It syncs up automatically every time I add new photos. It has a beautiful look and shows very clear pictures. I also bought 2 SPX12 (the 12 inch version) with perfect success right out of the box. A feature missing from the SPX12 (this frame has it) is the random order feature, so the slide show on the SPX8 is more interesting. The SPX12 also seems to zoom in on pictures that I've carefully formatted in Photoshop, trying to do some sort of "optimization". The SPX8 leaves the photos formatted as I want them.
