Digital camera reviews of SolidTek DM-L2 DigiMemo L2 8-1/2-by-11-Inch Digital Notepad

Digital camera Review: Good product
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this product couple of weeks ago and it is easy to use and makes note taking fun-filled for me

Digital camera Review: Good so far!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just received my notepad. It was very easy to use right out of the box. The software loaded easily and I could use the features right away. It seem very user friendly. I do not have to press hard and just write as I would on any notepad. The pen is light and is not too big or chunky. I find that it seems to be as good or better than the reviews lead me to believe. I think this product is better than I thought it would be. I am very pleased.

Digital camera Review: Great Device
Summary: 4 Stars

Pros:
- Does exactly what it is supposed to do. Writes, draws, and annotates very well.
- Battery life is pretty nice, so far.
- Software installation was simple.
- XP automatically detected it.
- Can also be used as a writing pad when attached to the computer.
- Automatically turns off after not being on and not used for a while.

Cons:
- Mine had faulty memory. Recorded 5 pages, which became corrupt after the sixth. Had no problems after installing an SD card though.

Aside from the memory problem, its a handy device to carry around. Helps me keep my class notes organized on my pc. Only other issue is that the GUI on the pc is not entirely straight forward, but its not that difficult to learn. It is a very good purchase.

Digital camera Review: Great Invention!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I currently own the A502 model and recently purchased the L2 model. I purchased the A502 in 2005 and used it infrequently, but enjoyed using it as a fun experiment. As an organic chemistry and calculus student it did not work due to the 5 x 8 capture size. I used the A502 primarily for doodling and memos. The A502 worked as advertised. Recently I started a new job that required me to obtain research material and information from multiple sources (i.e. books, journals, etc) and my style is to take notes with pen and paper and then transcribe them to MS Word.

I decided to give the L2 model a try as I had some success using the A502 and after reading mixed reviews on amazon, I decided to take a chance and purchased it through amazon. I have to say that I am highly satisfied with the product. I do not care about the text conversion software as I can type 90 wpm; so this tool is not a factor for me and I will not be purchasing the software after the 30 day trial is over. I have been using the tablet for a few days and it works as advertised. I can use it effectively and efficiently with MS Onenote 2007 and use it simultaneously with the pc and paper. There are some minor glitches (i.e. screen capture resolution) that I can overlook and not a factor in the overall performance of the product. The fact that I can use any paper and purchase ink refills for $1.79 from staples is remarkable. I can e-mail my notes instantly to anywhere in the world in pdf format and receive instant feedback with little to no effort. I feel its better than alternatives like the bulky Fly Fusion pen which requires you to purchase specialized notebooks at approximately $10 per book with 100 or so pages.

I would recomend this product to college and high school students, especially in Mathematics and Sciences as you can perform home work problems on plain paper, download the data to your pc or mac, convert the digital page to pdf, and submit them via e-mail in pdf format to your professors and teachers for review, help and corrections. All in a matter of seconds. There are many ways you can make this product work for you.

Listed below are my opinions on some of the negative comments about this product:

1. Lack of technology experience will get you frustrated. However, there are youtube videos that can help you out if you give this product a chance.
2. Lack of product research prior to purchasing. Figure out why you want and need to purchase this product. Technology is supposed to make us more efficient and productive, not the other way. Get my point!!
3. Aesthetics and portability. You can pretty it up with skins and it fits easily in a computer bookbag with a protective foam sleeve.
4. Poor product desing and durability. Treating this product roughly will cause it to break or malfunction (its not a metal pad and is breakable if you are rough with it)
5. Text conversion software (just like speech recognition software) is light years away as many of us have different writing styles and should not be a major factor in purchasing this product. MS Office has handwriting recognition software is a cheaper alternative that gives you the same resuls using an attached tablet for less than half the cost of the L2.

Digital camera Review: Great concept. Poor execution.
Summary: 1 Stars

I was really excited about the DigiMemo L2 given the reviews. However, I purchased one and discovered that it had a defective pen: The pen constantly registered as "on" so that all the letters and words were connected by a line. Following the troubleshooting instructions to replace the ink cartridge, I found that only the tip came off and the ink barrel stayed in. It almost seemed like it was jammed in there. So, there was no way to replace the ink cartridge and see if the pen would correct itself in terms any pressure on a mechanism within the pen. I contacted the company and they said it sounded like a problem with the pen. I returned the item for a new one.

I received the new memo pad today, and the same exact issue occurred with the constant line between letters and words. This time, when trouble-shooting, not only did the the pen tip came off, leaving the ink barrel in the pen, ink also leaked out. I give up on this product as I am tired of waiting for the purchase to arrive, being disappointed by it and waiting for the processing to ensure that my claim is valid. Twice was enough. It seems like I have found a batch of dud pens which makes me question the quality of the product even in the long-term. Glad to read that others are having success with this product though.
