Digital camera reviews of SolidTek DM-L2 DigiMemo L2 8-1/2-by-11-Inch Digital NotepadDigital camera Review: It gets the job done Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this item two months ago and used it quite frequently. I like it for its ease of use. I use it for submitting on line home work assignments for some online courses that I am taking and this product has been highly affective for this purpose. I get to keep the digital copies of all the work I submit and sending assignments in pdf format is very easy and convenient. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was due to low quality of LCD display and some erratic functioning when used as a pointing device when connected to PC but I don't use that feature very often. For the price it has been good purchase for me. I even bought an extra digital pen. It would have been nice to have a slot to "park" your pen when not in use since I loose pens very often.
Digital camera Review: It works! Summary: 4 Stars
I just followed the instructions and then plugged it into the computer and clicked on the convert option and what I had written in script was converted to typewritten.
I was then able to save the document in Word. I was pleased.
Digital camera Review: It's Just Okay... Summary: 3 Stars
I am an educator and have gravitated towards more high-tech presentations and use of the web for posting homework in my class. This device serves its purpose well for getting some handwritten worksheets digitized directly from paper to my laptop. Once on my laptop I can either upload it to the school website for a homework assignment or project it up onto a screen and manipulate it with it's accompanying paint program. Don't bother getting the additional software for handwriting recognition; it's basically useless and full of errors.
Digital camera Review: L2 Better than OK but not ready for Prime Time Summary: 3 Stars
This is actually a pretty good product based on my own expectataions where these types of products are in the technology advances and innovations. Plainly, it is not ready for prime time since there are not many handwriting to text conversion tools today that can do better than 60-80% accuracty 100% of the time -- especially with my sloppy handwriting.
Used as a digital pad extension to my laptop... I do find that it will help me with taking notes where handwritten drawings are much faster using the L2 than trying to embed them into word on the fly. It also allows me to have a ready hardcopy on an 8.5x11 paper.
My intentions are to use this in classes or other similar settings like conferences where I can use my laptop for basic note taking (I type at 50-60 words a min) and use this to capture the charts and graphics drawn on the board or shown on a presentation that might not be shared or shared at a much later time.
Otherwise, so far as I can say, not too bad a product but not ready for the mainstream.
Digital camera Review: L2 Digital Notepad Summary: 5 Stars
I opened the box, read the directions and was using the notepad right away. I'm still amazed at the precision and clarity of the notes from the pad to the computer. I was skeptical if I could actually use a full pad of paper and still get the image digitized - well it works great with a full pad of paper. I do find that I would like to use my own pen but it's a small sacrifice to get the notes into my computer. It saves a lot of time that I used to spend scanning my notes. The on-line writing feature that lets you use the pad as an input device directly to the PC that can then be used to connnect to a projection device works very well.
You can also use it as a tablet pad and seems to work very well (I don't have much need for this feature).
Be aware that it may not fit in a portfolio you may already have because it is larger than a normal 8.5 by 11 pad of paper. Also, if you lose the pen you'll need to order another one ($25 TO $30).
I would recommend this for those of you who scan your notes or could use it for classroom instruction.
