Digital camera reviews of Sony 8 GB Walkman Video MP3 Player (Black)Digital camera Review: Excellent sound and linux compatible (w/ some tweaking) Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this player on a whim. I already own an iRiver iHP-110 (which I love), an ipod Nano (which I don't), and a Creative Zen M (which is my workhorse). I was looking for a small MP3 player with adequate memory and great sound; video playback was not necessary but is considered a bonus.
When I bought this player, I was confident the audio fidelity would be excellent - and it is indeed. Sony's default headphones, IMHO, are always better than the competition's. (I use Sony's for all the players listed above just in case there was doubt as to comparisons.) The NWZ-A728 contains equalizer options as do all players but best of all let's you customize one of the settings for your own tastes.
The UI is very, very intuitive and best of all, it has HARD VOLUME BUTTONS!!! Why don't more manufacturers do this? I don't want to have to do multiple soft button presses to get to the volume - I just want to go UP and DOWN. Thank you Sony!
Video playback is very clear and the horizontal view is great eye candy. I wish it supported more formats like XVid but hey, I'm not going to rate it down for that. Battery life is very, very good as compared to my other players (with the exception of the iRiver).
I can't comment on the included software because I use Linux - Xubuntu 8.04 to be exact - and use freeware tools to manage my music and convert videos. At first blush, Xubuntu didn't see the player (and I suspect that's the case for any Ubuntu or Debian flavor). I ended up going over to the Kubuntu forums (kubuntuforums.net - look for a post by Jankushka) and you can follow his steps) to resolve the problem. (Note: Ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid) ships with libmtp 0.3.0 natively so this workaround won't be necessary once the release is stable.)
This player will end up replacing my Zen as my default device and the Nano is being retired permanently. If it had Ogg xupport and dynamic (custom) playlists like the Zen, I'd be in heaven but all-in-all, it is quite excellent. Highly recommend.
Digital camera Review: Great Summary: 5 Stars
This was my first MP3 player. I got it in order to view videos and documenteries while riding in train, happy with it.
Id does what is written in description. Performs great at thouse functions. Has no extra, usualy unnececery stuff, and i like this simple and plain.
Simple drug and drup from your PC to your MP3. Copy speed is good.
Sound quality is good and so is the video. Battery life is good, i see no reason for longer. Churges very fast, it takes about 5 minuts to charge for 1/4 of battery. and in some 15-30 minuts for full better, but deppends how you "speed up" yours battery.
Strong casing, everything in construction feels strong. Druped it in to the water on the street, works with out problems.
Works with out a problem at temperatures -18 C, i took it to the mountains. (i pods come back dead from there)
Works on Vista, but had some difficulties with format converting program provided. So i dont use it. Use otehr program. Not a big deal.
One small negative. It churges only from the USB, so there must be a computer near by fro u to cahrge it. might be a problem for travelers to far ends of the world:)
Its a good devise for a reasonable price.

Digital camera Review: Great MP3 player Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this mp3 player because it was on sale for such a good price.
I bought it as an open box item through Amazon and it was in great shape (no scratches or signs of wear)
The sound is great and it's very easy to use.
Great purchase.
Digital camera Review: Great Sounding MP3 Player! Summary: 5 Stars
This MP3 Player is finally off my Wish List! I bought it at Best Buy with a 10% off coupon. I bought it for [...]. You can get the coupon at [...]. At first the cashier said it did not include MP3 players, but once she scanned it the discount went thorugh.
I put my music on the 728 and I still have 5.6 GB remaining. I will be driving back East and look forward to the 36 hours of battery life.
The different sound options is great. You can tinker around until you find what you like best. So many different choices!
The 2.4" screen is a treat! I look forward to watching videos on it! It is very easy to move around the menu and find what you are looking for.
The biggest negative is the amount of acessories the 728 currently has. I will be going to a Sony Store to pick up a case for $19.99
If you are looking for an MP3 with excellent sound, this is for you!
