Digital camera Review: Great device but software is buggy

UPDATE 12/8/08: I did get Media Manager to work on my laptop. I then investigated the problem on my desktop further. When the software is installed it also installs needed windows components like the current version of Microsoft .NET framework, MS Visual C++, the Media Transfer Protocol porting kit (do a search on Microsoft.com for this.) Once I reinstalled the MTP porting kit AND reassigned the USB device in hardware manager to be an MTP device instead of a mass storage device, I was able to get it recognized by Media Manager. So something must have happened during the initial installation of the software to cause this issue. I'm glad too because Media Manager is the only practical way to get thumbnails to work on pictures for this device.
Also, six months after buying this product, the battery life is still great and I am still VERY happy with this product and the quality of the sound.
First of all I would like to say that I am as happy as I could possibly be with this MP3/MP4 player. It works as well as I expected. There are TONS of mp3s on mine now and at least 25 pictures and several videos. The ear buds that come with this model are terrific too! They are comfortable and the sound is amazing. The display is big and crisp. Both video and pictures look great!
The two main applications that come on the CD are Rhapsody and Media Manager for Walkman. I would be happy with Rhapsody if it didn't keep crashing. It drives me crazy that it crashes at no particular time or messes up the listing of my library.
Media Manager doesn't see my Walkman! Media Player and Rhapsody both do but not Media Manager. I uninstalled Media Manager and reinstalled it. I tried everything I can think of (and I have 12 years experience in IT. My PC is a new Pentium Dual Core 2.66 GHZ with 2 GB of RAM.)
So I use Itunes to rip my music, keep libraries, and I drag and drop them to the Sony Walkman.
Since this player also plays only .mp4 videos, I looked on the included CD for software that will convert videos in other formats to .mp4 but there is none! Instead I downloaded a free app off the internet.
There are many free downloads that will do all of this and more for you. If the software that came with the Walkman worked I would gladly give this product 5 stars. If I were to rate the player by itself I would give it 5 stars easily. Since I'm rating the whole package I will give it 4.
I do recommend you buy this product. I'm happy with it.

This Sony Walkman is amazing! It is small, lightweight, and easy to operate. However, watch out as this model does not actually come Bluetooth-equipped, even though the image shows a Bluetooth option. Besides that, this player is perfect for just about anyone. It's screen is sharp and clear, it has a decent volume range, and comes with many equalizer presets to really bring out your music. The only downside is that you cannot create playlists from the player; you must use a computer to do that. All in all, I would recommend this player to anyone. This mp3 player exceeded my expectations. Everyone I know has an iPod, and I have always thought the sound quality there was mediocre. The Sony mp3 delivers crisp, clean sound, and the built-in graphic equalizer allows for sound options to suit all styles of music. The noise-cancelling earbuds included with the player are remarkably good, and comfortable as well.
For those who like to listen to audiobooks, this player is a good choice. Though there isn't any fast-forwarding or going back within each chapter of the book, if you shut the unit off and turn it on again later, it will resume where you left off in the book......as long as you don't listen to something else before returning to the book.
This is the best mp3 player I've ever had.

The sound quality of this player is amazing. The player is very user friendly. The battery is very long lasting. I work 12 hour shifts and I barely use any battery at the end of a shift. I got this mp3 player from Amazon 2 weeks ago and I really liked it. I won't mention all the pros coz they have been already mentioned by others. Now I regret that I didn't go for the bluetooth enabled one coz I thought I won't be using it.
