Digital camera reviews of Sony 8 GB Walkman Video MP3 Player (Black)Digital camera Review: Insert clever review title here Summary: 4 Stars
Near perfect replacement for a defective creative zen 16gb.
Pros:
-No bloatware necessary. WMP or Explorer (for us that have jobs) works.
-Solid construction (more so in relation to forementioned zen, which was noticably flexible and "plasticky").
-Intuitive menu system (if you've use a mp3 player before in your life, then it's straight forward).
-Sound quality, and adjustablity of sound (tons in comparison with most mp3 players)
Cons:
-Limited display options for browsing music, or what's displayed while listening (aka, no full screen cover art with small details of the data played).
-Sony connector (it's sony, what more can I expect, but a standard USB cable would have easily pushed my vote to 5/5).
-Not expandable (some other competitors offer this, albeit in a rather limited fashion, I believe Sansa currently offers the best, the creative flavor is far worse).
Digital camera Review: Interesting, but lacking. Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this product on sale about a week and a half ago. Let me just rate things on a 1-10 scale and then I'll make some additional comments.
Product appearance: 10
Product durability: 10
Price (99.99): 10
Sound Quality: 10
LCD: 9
Controls: 9
Features: 5
As you can see above I think pretty highly of almost every aspect of this product. There are a few things that I think are wanting. One is that you can't modify files from within the player. You cannot delete or rename or organize files at all. I think the most important here is the delete capability. I don't think it is too much to ask that we can just remove songs. When you have 8 gig of music and you just move things into your file library you may not like some of them and you probably haven't listened to everything.
A HUGE thing I think that needs to be changed is expansion capability. There is no way to increase the players capacity. I would have to buy another mp3 player if I wanted a larger capacity. Why not allow for microSD or SDHC capacity? I can tell you why... they want you to buy another mp3 player. BAD SONY!
It also rebuilds the library every time you plug it in and remove it from your computer, but it only takes about 30-45 seconds.
I would like to comment on a positive though: this thing is very slim and sturdy. It is built very well and fits easily in to small spaces.
I would recommend this player if you can get it for 100 bucks like I did at the moment. Next year I would say this player needs to be about 50 bucks though. They are just getting too good with making them smaller and adding features and it lacks on the features in my opinion.
Digital camera Review: Left me in a state of bliss Summary: 5 Stars
If you like classical music you owe it to yourself to get this walkman. I cannot describe it but this is one of the few times I've really really enjoyed music. This device seems to have some sort of noise cancelling feature built in which makes it quite hard to hear outside noise but at the same time, it doesn't sound so loud as to make you deaf. Excellent device and yes, better than the ipod nano. It's not as flashy as the ipod touch but it definitely has better sound, which is the reason you want an mp3 player not so?
Digital camera Review: Love the player, hate the uneven earbuds Summary: 4 Stars
My first review and I'll keep it short. It's an excellent mp3 player, photo viewer and video player. Great sound and battery life. My only complaint is the uneven cord length to the earbuds. Sony and Amazon don't show a photo of this part of the earbuds, so most people are unaware of this design feature. I'll have to go buy me a normal earbud to go with this player.
Digital camera Review: No Accessory Option Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this for the Sony Brand, color Pink and thin sleek size. I rated this a 3 only because it is Sony. Overall this is a great MP3 player quality wise. One of the biggest disappointments is the lack of accessory options that allow you to grow with your player. iPOD has cornered that market. I would love for Sony to have speaker options to turn your player into a portable stereo. Although you can plug your PC speakers into the MP3 but cannot take it out. I would love Sony to have car accessories that allow you to take your MP3 on the road.
I am not impressed with the Walkman name or software that allows you to transfer books or music to the MP3. It is difficult to organize items or folders. Another feature that I absolutely get frustrated with is you don't seem to have the ability to download what you want, it downloads out of your control, everything on your PC. If you add new items, often times I'm seeing double entries. I really think the Walkman Software is below Sony's quality. Not IMPRESSED at all.
