Digital camera reviews of Sony 8 GB Walkman Video MP3 Player (Black)

Digital camera Review: Very nice MP3 player for the price!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Sony 8 GB Walkman Video MP3 Player is great. The headphone sound quality is better than the ipods in my opinion, plus the battery last much longer. I've got over 500 mp3's loaded out of my collection and I'm only down to about 3 gig left. I can play that for several days at about 5-6 hours per day without having to recharge. The video quality is also excellent. For the screen size (and I wear glasses), you can't beat the color and resolution. I can load a few movies and play them on a long flight, much better than what is usually offered. I would recommend this mp3 player to anyone looking to spend this amount of money and get a good return.

Digital camera Review: WAY BETTER than I ever expected!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an AMAZING MP3 player, the BEST I ever owned. I have bought/used 10+ MP3 players, I like this one the most. It was on sale on Amazon, I got it for about $105(still can not believe it!).AND it is a SONY! I think even at the regular price, it is still worth of buying. Fantastic sound quality, really good battery life(as compared to my two lame Creative MP3 players). Lots of features, does not feel cheap at all like my two Creative ones(Again, it is a SONY). The video feature is very good, as long as you get the right format. Overall, I highly recommend this player. I got way more than I paid for and I am loving it!

Digital camera Review: What's an Ipod?
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm going to go out on the limb and say that I'm not exactly a fan of the Ipod. It seems that everywhere I look, I see the ubiquitous optical circle of conformity that is the Ipod's interface. To be frank, I'm sick of it. But thankfully enough, my aversion to conformity has led me down the path of looking at options generally overlooked by the common mass of consumers.
The Sony NWZ-A728 is quite possibly the best sounding mp3 player currently on the market. Sure, competitors such as the Cowon D2 perform better in terms of a flat EQ, but none of these other players pack the signature "Sony Punch". And none of these players bundle with ear-buds or headphones that sound as the good as the MDR-EX82's included with this walkman. So all in all, I can safely assure you that this is the best sound you can get "out of the box". Vocals are excellent. Clearbass comes as a welcome substitute to the "bloated" sound that megabass delivered. I find that the included buds provide enough fidelity to clearly hear the thrums of each cord on an acoustic guitar.
As for the player's construction, I couldn't be any happier. Unlike the Creative Zen, this player does not exhibit the least bit of "plasticy" feel. The weight of the player in my opinion is ideal. It feels substantial yet light enough to carry without difficulty. In short, this does not feel like a toy.
Perhaps the first thing you'll notice upon booting this player up for the first time is the screen's clarity. The included fifa video does a great job of showing off the player's 30 frames per second playback. I personally use a freeware program called Videora Ipod Converter to convert videos. All in all, I think the screen is beautiful. There are better offerings... but for this price segment, I think this quite alright. My only caveat with the screen is that it is made of plastic. I would have preferred glass but I guess a screen protector will have to do.
In terms of value, I'm a little iffy. The player was bought for 160 dollars. The silicone case was approximately 30 dollars. If you choose, you could buy the ac adapter for another 40 bucks. I'd say your average customer would spend about 200 dollars. 230 with the adapter and case. But the fact that the headphones don't have to be updated aids the value argument. I would say the fidelity offering is about 50 dollars worth ( senn px100 or akg k26p). So all in all, this player actually initially seems iffy in terms of value. But I guess after weighing in the value of the headphones included, it kind of makes sense.
I think most of the other points about this product are covered within the other reviews. I really don't think you can go wrong with this product. Since the initial warranty offering is a little risky. I would recommend logging onto [...] and purchasing a Sony authorized 2 year extended service plan which is $[...]. Hopefully, I can add to this review as I use the mp3 player more.

Digital camera Review: not compatible
Summary: 2 Stars

I'm sure this would be a fantastic player if it were compatible with Audible downloads, and the software could actually import all the files I had already put into my itunes library. I hate working with media player 11 and how ugly it really is in comparison to apples presentation and options for importing and loading itunes is oustanding in this regard because it is constantly updated, and FREE. (which is my favorite kind) So, spend the extra cash and invest in a compatible player with something from mac. I now have the 8G nano, and love it and its simplicity of use.

Digital camera Review: so far so good
Summary: 4 Stars

I just got my Sony 8GB Walkman yesterday, and I have to say I like it very much.
Pros:
1) Sound Quality
2) Looks
3) After the initial charge, it's Plug and Play
4) Really easy to Sync with Windows Media Player 11 - I didn't have to install anything to sync, it was already on my computer. I'm glad because I've read several reviews where people complained about installing and uninstalling software the player came with, just because it didn't work.

Cons:
1) I don't like the headphones too much, they are a little too big, but that's not a huge problem as I can always replace it.
2) I also haven't figure out how to get the battery display working. If someone can give me a hint I'd appreciate it.
3) I would also like more if there was some relevant information displayed on the player during the initial charge. It didn't say if it's charging, and how much more it has to charge, and it didn't say that it's over, after 3.5 hours of charging. Maybe I had a problem because I can't get the battery level to display. How do I do this?

Edit (November 2008):

Battery display started to work after the next charge. Since then I didn't have any problems.

Battery life is very good.

I have to add that the sound is incredible. I don't understand why anyone would like to pay more for a different player considering this is already an outstanding company and the product is great. Some people complained about it's looks, but I think it looks very elegant.
