Digital camera reviews of Sony BDP-S1 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Digital camera Review: Blu-ray movie availability
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are looking for an honest way to decide which player to buy, try this Go to Netflix and look at the number of Blu-ray movies that are available. You will have to click on the icon and open it to see what formats are available. It will tell you if it is available in DVD, Blu-ray, or HD-DVD. So far I have found 2 movies in HD that are not Blue-ray, and of the 50+ movies in my Que that are Blu-ray maybe 3 or 4 of them are also available in HD-DVD.

Digital camera Review: Comapre withPanasonic first
Summary: 1 Stars

I have both Blu Ray players in my rig . The Sony is much inferior due to lack of gamma control , picture and sound quality is already not as good as Panasonic. the Panasonic has a built in scaler that is incredible. If you can compare chapter nine of Kingdom of Heaven on both players. The Panasonic can display tremendous color in dark scenes that just appear drab on Sony.
I was disapponited because this is suppode to a "Reference " player. Get the upgrade for Panasonic before you view KoH. the sound is spectacular.
Blu Ray is the format of the future . Spend your money wisely.

Digital camera Review: EXTREMLY OVERPRICED!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this bluray player and i must say, i'll stick with the brand i know works great and offers the best, HD DVD, overall the picture quality, brightness, details and sound are way much better in HD DVD, i know sony promised a lot from BD, but we all know promises fly away! Stick to HD DVD, you'll be quite surprised!

Digital camera Review: Eloquent designe, so so picture.

Sony BDP-S1 lacks the video processing of the newer model BR players. I've been watching standard DVD's and BR DVD's wondering what the heck happened to the picture compared to the BDP-S300. I was on the Sony site checking out the difference between the three available models. It turns out the 300 and 301 have a circuit called 24P True Cinema and the S1 doesn't. It not only makes a big difference in standard DVD's but also makes BR DVD's picture better as well. I'm not ooing and awing with the picture from the very expensive BDP-S1, but it does get coo dose for its beauty and construction.

The BDP-S1 also lacks "x.v. color" so if you have a newer TV with HDMI 1.3 "the color space has been greatly expanded. 1.8 times as many natural colors as existing HDTV signals will now be faithfully reproduced "
The advanced circitry isn't just nerd stuff spliting hairs. It realy makes a diffrence if you purchased a newer HDTV.
Why can't Sony get its act together and sell an updated version of the BDP-S1? OK, they droped the price on the BDP-S1 but you won't like the picture if you have used one of the 2nd generation Sony BR DVD player.
