Digital camera reviews of Sony BDP-S360 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Digital camera Review: Critical failure during update!
Summary: 1 Stars

Like most Blu Ray players, this Sony player periodically updates itself via a network connection. In theory, this is a great capability to keep your player current. Updates have pretty much become a standard way for most products to stay current and useful longer. PCs, software, GPS units, phones, video game consoles, video games, etc. all do this fairly well. Basically, it's a software or firmware update. Sony, however, has made a big mistake and it will cost you time and money! Apparently, some of their updates are critical and if something goes wrong during the update, your unit is rendered USELESS. Yup, unlike other products where you can roll back to the previous state of the system before the update, or simply try again, the ingenious system designers at Sony have architected their product in such a way that when you do what you believe to be a pretty mundane task of updating, something catastrophic may happen and it will require you to pack up your unit and send it to their repair facility. Now, if you're out of warranty, they say the repair/exchange could cost you about $110 or more. Imagine that... a catastrophic failure not due to your misuse, abuse, or neglect of the product, but rather a routine procedure triggered by selecting "OK" when the unit prompts you to do an update! A catastrophic failure that will cost you the same amount of money to simply buy another new unit! Now, I realize that this may be a very infrequent scenario, but if I knew ahead of time that this was even possible, I would not have purchased this product. Imagine having to buy another car if an oil change failed, or buy that $300 software program again because an update failed! Ridiculous right!

Digital camera Review: DEAD after two days
Summary: 1 Stars

Player went dead after two days with my disc stuck inside. It was brand new according to the seller, but im doubting that. Thankfully Sony is replacing it and paying for shipping. I am being sent a new one.

Digital camera Review: DO NOT BUY!! HORRIBLE QUALITY!! MAJOR MALFUNCTIONS OVER AND OVER AND OVER
Summary: 1 Stars

Do NOT buy one of these!!! I have had THREE units..... YES THREE...... all fail on me. They will fail to play discs over and over and over. Sony will fix them and they will work for awhile and then repeat the same malfunctions over and over and over. I assure you that if you buy one....... you will have many movie nights ruined because this player is pure garbage. I was a fool for replacing them with the same unit. Never again. Sony bluray players are the worst thing you can buy. They are ok when they are working properly but it is only a matter of time before the unit malfunctions.

*Update 9/27/010*
After being repaired just a few shorts months ago..... the player is DOWN AGAIN!!!! Fails to read bluray disc. Sony has not even bothered to update the hardware that keep malfunctioning on these units!! You would think that they would do so so they can fix it once and for all and never have to fix it again. Nope!! I suspect that they are using up old stock for repair parts!! What junk!!!! I have been a lifelong Sony fan and their bluray players are the worst that you can buy... period. I have had numerous models all malfunction over and over in the same manner. I/O hardware failure.

Digital camera Review: DOA
Summary: 1 Stars

Researched Blu-ray players and landed here. Sounded like the ideal product. Received the item a day early (Thanks Amazon). Set it up. Plugged it in. Display says Sys Err. Unplugged it and plugged it back in to no avail. Called Sony customer service (in El Salvador). Long phone call. End result: Factory Defect..."we don't test Every product that leaves the factory". No replacement for me. Sounds like a good product if it worked but this is my third defective Sony product this year. Back to the research phase.

Digital camera Review: DOA

Player actually lasted about 5 minutes. "System Error" message. Handbook says return to seller. It kept my disc, too.
