Digital camera reviews of Sony BDP-S360 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Digital camera Review: A lump of Sony coal in our stocking
Summary: 2 Stars

I did my black Friday shopping on line. Didn't open until Xmas day. Unpacked, spent thirty minutes plus downloading the software and no Blu-Ray. Major disappointment. Sony pretty good about taking it back to work on it, but slow.

Digital camera Review: A real work horse of a bluray player from Sony!
Summary: 4 Stars

First off I got this somewhere else less expensive but had to write a review on it. I bought it open box and was surprised how easy it was to setup. I'm using a HDMI for all video and audio which works great. When you have a surround sound sys. and running it like I am through HDMI, make sure your setting is on the direct mode otherwise it will just stay in the standard mode for surround sound, (no dolby digital or hd sound modes were avail in this mode) Another reviewer stated this earlier. Picture on it is great, sound is great is there better ones out there with this price, sure. But I don't have netflix and any movies I'm renting are thru a red box so I really could care less about all the features everyone else has. BDLive works great as well, I use a small 1gb flash dr. in back for it and no problems. As far as playability I've used bluray, dvd, dvd-r, and cd's for an all day marathon of movies for at least 6hrs. Not one hiccup or problem! I am very impressed, and continue to be a Sony fan!

Digital camera Review: A really smart buy, don't get fooled by internet video
Summary: 5 Stars

After ordering this player, we had great doubts that this unit was going to satisfy us. We developed second thoughts. This Sony didn't provide streamed video. We became so convinced that video from the internet was so important, we contacted Amazon to get an RMA number to return it so we could buy the Panasonic BD60. Luckily, we decided to watch both a Blu-ray disc and a 480P DVD to see video quality differences. We were simply amazed and not just the video but with the audio as well. We then started to consider the worth of video streaming. The cost to pay a monthly fee for membership. Having a monthly fee regardless of the fact that there were no decent movies during those thirty days. Then, we found that the number of Blu-ray DVD's for rent was limited. Heck, it is just as cost effective to occasionally rent that good movie for Blu-ray viewing. An exceptional movie (such as The Lord of the Rings and/or Planet Earth) would be purchased. No, we weren't going to let features determine our Blu-ray purchase. We choose quality. And, quality is something that we feel this inexpensive player has. We've destroyed the RMA return number and have decided to keep the Sony. We feel very comfortable in recommending it. If you want a feature laden unit, look elsewhere but if quality is your thing, consider the Sony.

Digital camera Review: After a year, I quit.
Summary: 1 Stars

I wanted a lower end bluray player to replace an old DVD player so I could watch prerecorded high def movies on my new Sony HDTV. From the first day, the Sony s360 was unreliable. Though easy to connect and use, about 1/3 of the time it fails to either load or finish playing without some sort of audio/video malfunction. This happens not only with regular DVDs but also with bluray movies. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the problem since very often movies that will load one night, will not load or play properly the next. The sound problem can often be fixed by ejecting and reloading the disc, and then manually searching for the scene where you want to resume play. While a hassle, at least you can watch the film. However, there is no fix if the disc won't load. Give up and go for a walk.

If your Sony is unreliable and within the one year manufacturer's warranty you can get a free refurbished unit. I did not know this, and since I am two weeks past the warranty date, I must pay $123+tax. Since I can buy a new bluray player from a different manufacturer for a little more than that, I am going to go in that direction.

Digital camera Review: Agree with all the positive reviews!
Summary: 5 Stars

My first Blu-Ray! It's great. Works well with my Yamaha RX-V467 receiver. HDMI-CEC functions with the receiver and Samsung LED television (UN55C6500) well. Great picture and sound.

Upconversion: Works great with my DVDs. Don't know what others are talking about. :(

Negatives:

One USB port. So adding a WiFi connection for BD Live is going to be a pain (you'll need an Ethernet-to-WiFi access point). The USB port will be used to give the unit memory for BD Live (via thumb drive or hard drive).

No streaming of Netflix or other services. Not a big deal to me, because I use that feature on my television.
