Digital camera reviews of Sony Cybershot S650 7.2MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical ZoomDigital camera Review: Good for Beginner, Photo Quality Poor Summary: 2 Stars
Bought one of these at a good price, but the price is not good enough to keep it. Upgrading from an older Kodak C730 3.1MP, I was very disappointed. The picture quality is just simply awful. I took much better quality pictures with my older camera. The turnout is grainy in most situations (every now and then you get lucky with a good one) and the color seems to be very dull. Software enhancement didn't help much either. I tried playing with all the settings, but it didn't seem to help. Besides, I never had to adjust anything on the Kodak, Auto seemed to work just fine. I think this is a camera that somebody who has never owned a digital camera would enjoy, or maybe someone who is upgrading from one of those cheap off brand cameras you see in stores for under $50. But if you've ever used a decent quality digital camera, look elsewhere. I was very surprised that Sony would let a product with such low quality out into the market. Learned something new. This is my first Sony still camera, and probably will be my last. I was willing to live without the view finder because the style of the camera made it easy to use without one. It's a very attractive camera, small and sleek. Too bad it doesn't operate as well as it looks. Think I'm gonna look at a Canon PowerShot A590IS next, I've heard good things about them. Besides, I have a lot of SD cards laying around, didn't feel like spending the extra money on a proprietary memory card that Sony is cashing in on (MemoryStick).
Digital camera Review: Good little camera, for the life it had Summary: 4 Stars
This camera was an upgrade for me at the time from a Fujifilm FinePix A345 and took waaaay better photos than that ever did, in much higher resolution and just better all-around sharpness and quality. I liked the adjustments for cloudy days, sunny days, fluorescent lighting, etc. and it turned on quickly so I could get a shot of something in a jiffy if need be.
I wished it had more manual settings - most notably an adjustable focus and a better way to set the light meter (often I'm aiming it at something dark to get the image to be brighter, then shooting my actual image and sometimes that means my shot is out of focus). High ISO photos are grainy, but at least you can still shoot in darker settings. Otherwise, you do get a lot of blur in lower light. I wished it had a better zoom, but it was okay. If you've got it on a lower megapixel setting, it will zoom in even more than it does on a higher setting. This was one I carried in my purse everywhere with me for two or three years. I used it quite frequently, sometimes every day, and it was good to me.
Lately, and I'm guessing it's at the end of its life, it's been displaying the menu screen even when I haven't pushed the menu button, and it's turning on about 1/3 of the time I push the power button. R.I.P., little camera.
For my next one, I definitely want more zoom and more ability to manually tweak my settings - but still have a point-and-shoot quality for Quick!-Get the camera! moments.
Digital camera Review: Great Camera !!! Summary: 5 Stars
When I first got this camera, I thought it would just be great to have, but it far exceeded my expectations. I love this camera! The pictures are stunning! I even took pictures in total darkness, with nightshot selected when I could barely see anything myself, and it looked like I had lights on in the room. The pictures are crisp and you can see every detail.Love it!!
Digital camera Review: Great Camera, more for the price Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this camera becuase it was a great camera and not too expensive. I'm happy with it for the most part. great pictures and video. Not too many effects on it though and i still haven't figured out how to make the pictures black and white. It's not a really simple camera...but besides all of that, the thing I didn't like about it is that you can't zoom while videotaping. Why in the world would you make a camera that dosen't zoom?? I can't figure it out. but whatever. it's a cool camera!
Digital camera Review: Great PnS, but horrible lens and megapixels are a joke. Summary: 3 Stars
I got this for christmas in 2007, so it's almost 3 years old.
It's weathered, scratched up, beat on, but it still works and takes good general pictures.
This is coming from an advanced amateur 13 year old who is a techie.
Pros
____
*Durable, I have dropped it countless times from 4+ft on the concrete.
*24mb internal capacity. That's room for 6 7mp pics, or 120+ VGA pics if you forgot your memory stick pro.
*Takes AAs, not stupid proprietary batteries with only 1500mAh. I use 3600mAh (1800 nimh*2)
*Navigation is very easy. Button layout is fantastic.
*Recessed power button on top. I can't tell you how much the lens motors get beat up when it's in a case and it's on, or trying to spit the lens out.
*Takes Memory Stick PRO Duo's. They have excellent read/write speeds and consistent quality versus unpredictable SD cards. Sony made means decent build quality.
*Zoom is great for a point and shoot
*Circular slider works good, but I always have it in Auto or Program (convenient placed next to each other.
*Lotsa modes. This may be a con for some people.
*Records sound in the video
*Kinda readable screen in sunlight, but look at cons.
*Innovative lens dust cover keeps dust out when it is retracted inside.
*Great two step shutter button. Focusing is easy thanks to that.
Cons
____
*Horrible lens and stabilizer.
*Macro is mediocre.
*Screen is nearly illegible. Trying to fit ~480*273 in a 2" screen was a bad move.
*Susceptible to scratches(weak plastic, but hasn't cracked on me yet)
*Write time to the card takes too long.
*No manual stops, everything is auto, even in program. Bad for taking flashlight beamshots.
*Exposure levels are very broad(Two-tenths)
*No video sound playback. May be a pro.
*Annoying shutter brrreeep! Can be turned off though.
Overall this is a great camera for a super duper duper novice photographer, but I'm upgrading after the nearly 3 year I've had it.
