Digital camera Review: As good as it gets

This CD player is about as good as you will find on the market today. So many companies have abandoned the physical medium players for electronic file players that your choices are quite limited. This player is the best I was able to find after many hours of searching. I've used it daily since receiving it and have found nothing wrong with it so far. I bought this Sony Walkman for plane travel, heaven help me. You can't even get an enjoyable volume out of the thing in an empty hotel room. I smell a lawsuit in this somewhere, since this is a new problem with Sony for me. All over the instructions, and I mean all over, are constant warnings that loud noise can cause hearing damage. Considering that we live in the Age of the Lawsuit, I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised. The volume level that's attainable, on CD or radio, stinks. No, I'm not a teenager. I'm pushing 50. But when you're trying to hear the soaring notes of a favorite song, even if it's Big Band music, you want to hear it.
Two points. One of the reviews blamed the awful level of hiss the thing makes, and yes, it's as quiet as a meat grinder. But I think that reviewer missed the one-two punch of enforced-by-law sound level combined with system noise.
Second, it does surprisingly well with audio books, which is just the opposite of what most portable sound systems do. So far, the talking books I have come in crisp and clear, and loud enough to be heard. But I'll be junking it before my next vacation, because I'd like it to be able to play a little music on it, as well.

I took the time to really look up CD players. This was important because I needed a CD player that my Grandmother could listen to books on tape with. It needed a special feature to continue the story in the same place as when she shut it off. The first one I ordered, the company came back and said they couldn't ship it. The second from OneStopShop (that I had to pay expidited shipping to arrive in time) arrived broken. It kept shutting off after a minute of listening. I then had quite a problem with One Stop and Amazon getting a full refund. You end up paying to do business with them when you return a product. I do remember reading the reviews and I speciffically remember one that said this CD player could have this problem. Overall the ratings were good, as Amazon would like us to believe. However, my advice is to take a better look at the bad reviews. This was a disaster!

Digital camera Review: Close to indestructible!

I listen to books on CD almost nonstop when I am not actually working with the public. I don't have an Ipod and don't want one -- most of my books I borrow either from the library or from other services. Therefore I need a portable CD player that can go with me, get jiggled and jostled, get dropped, etc., won't pick up a lot of static. I have owned two of these that have lasted over a year (a record for me), and have just ordered three more (really afraid that the portable CD player will go out of existence!) -- I'll have to start being more careful.
For the old foggies out there, this is one of the best quality products out there! My portable tape player is also a Sony.
