I bought this for my daughter for Christmas and she loves it. She listen to a mix of FM radio & cd's and it plays both quite well. She says the sound quality is awesome and since she carries it around with her, it still plays well while walking & jumping around. It was a very good price for this quality. It replaced a no-name brand that we bought for $20, and she really begged for another Sony product. We are very happy with this player.Digital camera Review: Great for Audio Books

I searched for a portable CD player to listen to audio books. My first two players were from Jensen and Memorex. Both of these players had short battery life, ineffective vibration control, and did not remember the story location when turned off, except for the beginning of the track.
The Sony NF-340 did everything I had hoped to find in a CD player. Batteries last for several books. I no longer use an external charger. The vibration control is flawless. There is about a 40 second delay when starting, but after that I have never noticed a "skip". Best of all, the NF-340 remembers the exact location of the book when I turn it back on, so I don't have to re-listen to sections. CD and MP3 audio books both play flawlessly in the NF-340. I should have purchased Sony in the first place.
The Memorex CD player produced random screeches that hurt my ears.

I listen to audio books while I work, and this CD player is just what I was looking for. I can listen to the radio if I choose to, and when I'm listening to CD's, I can hit "stop" to go on break and when I come back and hit "play," it resumes in the same spot I left it in. Love that, as my previous CD player wouldn't hold its place unless I pushed "pause" and it ran the battery down. I also discovered that even if you take the CD out to clean it, it will pick up in the same spot once you return it to the player, and if you take the batteries out to replace them, it will also pick up in the same spot on the CD. Pretty cool! The only minor annoyance is that when you first push play on each new CD, you have to wait several seconds while a "Walkman" intro plays on the display screen before the CD actually starts playing. It will keep your place when you pause it for short periods, and when you stop it for long periods.
This is a great feature.
Now I'm going to make a case that fits it, so I can carry it around.
