Digital camera reviews of Sony DPF-D80 8-Inch LCD Digital Photo Frame (Black)Digital camera Review: Beautiful Pics Summary: 5 Stars
After doing a ton of research, I settled on this frame mostly by process of elimination (and the fact that while there are not a ton of reviews on Sony frames, they are mostly all good). I eliminated many others because (1) most other frames are not in the 4:3 aspect ratio (meaning black bars on your pics); (2) most other frames have mediocre reviews (for example, no Kodak frame (the market leader) does better then 3.5 stars on Amazon over tons of reviews; and (3) many frames by lesser known brands appear to have serious and scary quality control issues that are ignored/not caught by professional reviews, but show up in user reviews.
This frame definitely costs more for the size and features, but the pics look awesome, and I'm confident that if there is a problem, I have a reliable company to go to. It was super easy to get set up, I put 350 pics in a folder, ran a batch resizer on them to get them to 800x600 (not really necessary given the amount of on-board memory on the unit, but the I figured my PC plus a good free resizer program would probably do better then the unit itself at resizing), connected the frame by USB cable to the PC and copied that folder to the unit and that was pretty much that. For the price, a bigger picture frame would be nice, but really the 8 inch screen size is great for your desk at work.
Digital camera Review: Beautiful pictures, well done features, few minor quirks Summary: 5 Stars
I've been looking at digital picture frames for a long time since I've been shooting digital since 2001 or so, but had never bought one before. It used to be they were low resolution, or had low picture quality, or had a widescreen aspect ratio because they used the LCD panels from DVD players. Finally, I saw the Sony DPF-D80 frame.
The most important part of a frame should be the picture quality, and this frame excels in that department - bright, vivid pictures from almost anywhere you look at it, with a 4:3 aspect ratio like the pictures digital cameras output.
The frame itself is a beautiful glossy black... looks great when clean, but prone to fingerprints. Fortunately there's no need to touch it except to load pictures, as there is a remote.
It comes with a generous 256MB of memory - enough for several thousand pictures if you take the time to resize your pictures to the 800x600 resolution of the frame (you can use the batch resizing in free tools like IrfanView) rather than just dumping the full size camera output. If you choose the later the frame reads most memory card formats.
It does have a couple of minor quirks, mentioned in other reviews. First, it always starts up on the same image, even in random mode. Secondly, for small numbers of pictures (100 or so) random doesn't seem quite random, as I often see a picture cycle back through after just a couple of intervening photos. Also, the time selections for the slideshow are limited, you can't pick an arbitrary time - so that, for example, you can only have 3 or 10 seconds per picture, not 5 or 7 or whatever you want.
To counterbalance that it has many more features, including different types of views easily accessed from the frame or the remote. The multiple-image view is actually pretty nice, though the pictures end up being too small unless you have the frame on your desk.
I highly recommend this frame. Hopefully they'll tweak the firmware to address the quirks in the future.
Digital camera Review: Beautiful, stunning picture! Summary: 5 Stars
Sony is a great brand and they make a great digital photo frame. I bought an off-brand a couple of years ago and still regret it to this day. The colors on THIS unit are deep and crisp. It's just a beautiful picture. The frame's gloss black finish also helps to complement that nice picture. Definitely a great buy for the price and size of the picture you get!
Digital camera Review: Best digital frame, hands down. Summary: 5 Stars
A long time ago I had a Sony Walkman that I loved. I used it for years. I haven't loved many Sony products since then. But this frame is awesome. It is by far the best digital frame on the market. The screen is sharp and bright. The frame looks classy on the desk. Highly recommended and worth the extra money.
Digital camera Review: Best of the digitial frames Summary: 4 Stars
Checked out many digitial frames and came to the conclusion that most of them were junk. The sony does not have all the whizz- bang features of the others and the price is high, but the quality is there. At this time this is the only brand of frame I would buy.
