This is the first portable DVD player I have purchased. I picked Sony because all my electronic equipment is Sony. I have used it a few times and can honestly say I am very happy with all aspects of it. Picture quality is great. Listening through headphones is awesome. The built in speakers are ok, but not much bass response. The manual is ok but not great. I had a hard time keeping whole screen displayed. (Some DVD's do not display a whole picture I am told but all of mine do). Connections are easy for copying onto a VHS if you like. This is a great portable DVD player. We just used it on a 2,500 mile round trip and it worked perfectly. The picture is sharp and clear, and the sound is also very good. We installed the DVD player in the back of our van, so we also got good use out of the remote control, which allowed us to easily adjust the sound from the front seats. I highly recommend mounting your DVD player with the DVD Dr. 70200 Portable DVD Player Car Mount.Digital camera Review: So far so good!

We had an old Insignia product that was not working well which we have since revived and a two hour road trip to Cape Cod. Therefore, I decided to look at what Amazon had to offer. After reading the reviews of many current and previous owners, this is the DVD player I chose to purchase. We have only used it twice thus far going to and from the Cape, however I have to say that the sound is superior as is the picture. My child in the third row of our minivan could both see and hear the movie from the console it was resting on between the front seats of the car. The swivel factor is also very helpful to adjust the picture when driving with sun as factor for screen visability. Thus far, I would give this machine an A+. How long it functions remains to be seen as we take great care of our equipment. We have used the Insignia for four years going back and forth to the Cape. Now we have two machines and can make everyone happy! I will say the Sony is far superior to the Insignia.Digital camera Review: So far so good...

I had this for a few weeks for my 1 year old and it's been working great so far. My baby loves it. It hasn't skipped at all yet and sound is definitely not an issue when using it in a car. Remote works well as long as you point in the general direction of the player.
I don't think it plays other types of files although I haven't tried yet and I don't think it will play DVDs from other regions either although I haven't given that a shot either yet. If it was a little thinner and had a car mounting kit as well, then this would've been a perfect buy.
