I bought this as a Christmas gift for my [...] grand child. Needless to say, these children are a lot more adept at figuring out electronics than I am or could ever be I , so charging and playing this DVD was a simple task for her. She enjoyed 2 full length movies on a 5 hour car trip the day after she opened the DVD player and there was still more battery power left. The DVD player arrived just in time for our road trip vacation, after one movie the screen blacked out. It would come back on for a while after shutting it off, but would rarely play the whole show. A snake waiting to bite you. Sony definitely fails with this monster from an electronics lab. Problem is it just will not stay adjusted; reverts to factory defaults every time you switch discs. Please leave it alone .Digital camera Review: The best 9" portable!

My experience sounds like another reviewer's.... Bought this for a 2500-mile trip to Florida, and my kids LOVED it. Awesome widescreen picture quality, two headphone jacks, and all the cables we could have needed. Just the right size for backseat viewing.
One more note: This unit feels VERY solid, not like the flimsy cheapies you see for half the price.

I am a 76-year-old disabled veteran, and I have quite a collection of DVDs -- mostly very old B&W movies and some old television programs. Some are like "Lum and Abner," "Amos and Andy," "The Beverly Hillbillies," "Ma and Pa Kettle," "the Victor Borge show." I also have several series about World War II and the military such as "The War", and the History Channel series "Dogfight."
My wife has had two small strokes, and can no longer drive. Often when I drive my wife to one of her doctors' appointments or to have her hair done weekly, I wait in the car and watch some of my DVDs.
The picture quality of the Sony DVD player is outstanding, and the 6-hour battery life is excellent. The 9" size is perfect, and is lightweight enough to move around with one hand. Sometimes I like to watch a DVD while I am in bed, so I turn the DVD player sideways on the night stand so that I can lay on my side with my head on a pillow to watch the picture.
I highly recommend the Sony DVD player!
