IF YOU NEED TO USE 2X,4X ZOOM THE ZOOM icon REMAINS ON SCREEN. SONY GAVE ME TWO DIFFERENT ANSWERS. FIRST WAS THAT MY UNIT WAS DEFECTIVE AND THE ZOOM WINDOW SHOULD DISAPEAR AFTER A FEW SECONDS. YOU WANT TO WATCH A MOVIE WITH A BRIGHT BLUE AND WHITE BOX IN YOUR MOVIE? I RETURNED THIS UNIT TOO. WENT TO WAL-MART, I HATE WAL-MART AND PURCHASED A pHILIPS AND IT IS FANTASTIC. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH SONY IN THE PAST AND FOR SURE THIS IS MY LAST SONY PURCHASE.

Digital camera Review: A very reliable item at a great price! Summary: 5 Stars
A large proportion of my viewing these days involves discs of my own creation. Unfortunately my older generation Sony DVD player was either unable to read those discs at all or the discs would freeze at some point and then refuse to be played further.
Considering that my older player had cost much more than this newer one I was fearful that I might be wasting my money; nevertheless, I did like the fact that it had the ability to play mp3s and jpeg files, which my older unit did not, so I decided to take a chance.
Setting up the unit was a breeze. After two months of use, I can honestly say that I have never had a single disc rejected as being unplayable or even had one freeze during play. Unlike what I have read from some other reviewers I don't think that the unit takes too long to perform an initial read of a disc. I simply insert a disc and usually by the time that I have walked back to the couch and gotten comfortable, it is ready to play.
All in all, I would say that I am very pleased with this unit and the price for a "name" brand is hard to beat!
Digital camera Review: Awesome DVD player for the price Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this DVD player a few weeks now and have watched a couple dozen DVDs. None have given me any problems, including scratched DVDs and DVDs burnt on cheap media which would freeze and skip on my old econo DVD player.
The pros: The user interface is excellent. It seems solid, quick to respond, and well made. I love the speed up/slow down feature, very cool. It's sleek and compact looking, excellent remote control response range.
The cons: The remote will not program for too many TVs, there's only about a dozen codes and none of them work for my older TV. I'm sure it's fine if you're TV is from the last 5 years or so, or a very common older one though.
This model is one of very few DVD players I looked at that wasn't made in China, definitely a plus in my book (although many other Sonys are).
I can't yet speak for long-term use, but overall, I'm very impressed.
Digital camera Review: Basic DVD Summary: 4 Stars
A simple, inexpensive, unobtrusive,basic,well-designed, problem free piece of hardware. It would be helpful if one could switch between surround sound and simple stereo on the fly.
Digital camera Review: Best DVD Player under $50 I have found although NOT DIVX compatible Summary: 4 Stars
With the sole exception of NOT being DIVX compatible, this DVD perfectly met all my other needs and was under $50 too. The remote has nice buttons that stick up good and are found by ease with my fat fingers. Quality is good, with the sole exception that if you don't have the remote good luck using the buttons on the machine they are poorly labeled, flush set, and almost impossible to find. In my opinion they should have labeled them much better and made the buttons easier to press because lets face it, everyone loses their remote sooner or later.
