Digital camera Review: For about $40, it's definitely worth it, aside from the JPG gimmick...

Just got mine yesterday to replace another cheapo (different brand: $30 Insignia) DVD player that seem to start acting funky recently (goes in and out of focus here and there) after 2 years of frequent use. I always preferred non brand name cheap DVD players, because they typically tend to play any disc, scratched or self burned, unlike some other more expensive players from my own experience. Since I did not find any other non brand name players that had decent reviews, came across this Sony, one main thing I was looking for was, can it play practically any disc, and noticed two reviews claiming that it can.
Pro
* small footprint, about 2" h x 12" w
* tray opens and close pretty quick
* disc loading is reasonably fast
* remembers last played to resume after turning off and back on
* will play practically any disc, rental(fairly scratched) or self burned
* works with my Philips Universal 4 devices remote SRU2040/17
* component can receive signals from the remote easily, does not have to point directly at it
* very basic installation requirements, power plug and RCA jacks.
* Straight forward enough menu to navigate, without needing to read the manual (the only setting I needed to change was the aspect to 16:9 to suit my wide screen TV)
Con
* Only one gimmick, is the capability to display JPG images. As expected, it's somewhat slow loading the thumbnails. But, the worse part is that even though the images are 12 megapixel (4288x2848), I guess it displays them at 480p (720x480), does not resize down while retaining the quality, so they look horrible. To view images, the better option is to either use a computer that is connected to a TV (my TV displays computer input at max 1024x768) or the computer monitor itself. The quality the DVD player displays them at, might as well go back in time to 1997 digital camera technology.
Conclusion
* For no more than $40, it's great for playing 480p DVD "movies", if that's all you need. For this player, $30 to $35 out the door would be more reasonable.
