Digital camera reviews of Sony DVPFX810 8-Inch Portable DVD Player, Black

Digital camera Review: A Very Good Deal
Summary: 5 Stars

Purchased this for myself to keep me company during my mom's length recovery from surgery. Wonderful to be able to watch what I wanted in my own room. AAHHH.
This DVD palyer came with very thing you need; not like others where you need to purchase a charger and such. You won't be disappointed with the picture or sound quality for the price.

Digital camera Review: A good little unit
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a good little portable DVD player... though I can see what everyone means about the glare and the weight. It was one of the smallest units at the store, which is what I wanted, and the picture is perfectly fine. Yes, it's a little pixellated when you have something dark right next to something light, and you mostly see it when you have words on the screen. But I don't really need to see the credits anyway. If you're using it for a work presentation that has text, then it will be a problem.

The glossy display has its good and bad points. The picture itself is great, and I think looks a lot better than the non-glossy displays, but it does have a glare problem. I'm wishing that I didn't read those reviews before I bought it because I'm wondering if I would have noticed it as much if I didn't know the problem was there. The actual picture is fine, unless you have a dark part. Most of my movies aren't dark, but I was watching Batman yesterday and definitely noticed it. If your movie is not dark, you'll still see it around the edges. It's not enough of a problem for me to take it back. But I am going to play with some ideas of how to make a frame for it so that the edges aren't as reflective. Inkjet window-cling material printed with black is my idea.

The sound is fine... anyone who wants to listen to it without headphones on an airplane, please don't. It's really annoying to people around you. People don't listen to music on airplanes without headphones, why do it with a DVD player? This one has two headphone jacks. The screen is such that you probably couldn't get three people to be able to see it anyway, because when you view it from too much of an angle, you can't see it well.

The battery life is great. I watched 2 3/4 movies before it died, on the default brightness setting, and the last two movies I wasn't using headphones. I wonder if I had been using headphones, if it would have lasted the whole third movie.

It is a little heavy, but all in all, a good unit and worth the price, I think. The controls are all on the screen, you don't need to haul the giant remote around with you.

For some reason, the blue model was $20 cheaper at the store, so that's what I got.

Digital camera Review: Amazing Deal
Summary: 5 Stars

I recommend getting this product over some of the other portable DVD players. This one looks nicer and lasts a lot longer with the 5 hour battery.

Digital camera Review: An ALMOST perfect portable DVD player
Summary: 4 Stars

Sony, a name of usually high quality products doesn't disappoint with the DVPFX810. Here's my breakdown of this product:

PROS:
Beautiful design
AWESOME battery life compared to any other player out there (5 hours +)
large 8" screen
Lots of options for contrast, brightness, etc.
excellent full functioning remote
swiveling screen makes it easy to watch movie on cramped plane tray (just like a tablet PC)
Acrylic hard coating screen makes for a scratch resistant viewing area
Plays DVD-Rs or CD-Rs with Jpegs
Plays mp3 with excellent sound on burned discs
2 headphone jacks
car charger included
dual remote sensors on unit for convenience of operation
PRICE IS EXCELLENT

CONS:
the screen is merely average, actually has less pixels vertically than a smaller sized PSP (280 for PSP 220 for this)
built in stereo speakers don't get too loud (use your headset)
no included case
no memory stick/SD card slot

Conclusion: This is a VERY good unit for under $200. I got mine for $200 even including tax (thats the deal I made with ABC warehouse). There aren't any other units that can play 2 full movies on one charge that is 8" in diameter. I highly recommend this in spite of its few shortcomings.

Digital camera Review: An Excellent Portable DVD Player, If You Can Accept the Glare
Summary: 5 Stars

We recently purchased this DVD player for a long road trip and were not disappointed. The picture quality is great and the sound through the built in speakers is loud enough to be heard over the road noise (of course head phones or an auxillary jack in the car stereo system are other options). The look and feel of the player present a high level of quality, especially when compared with other portable DVD players. My only concern with the player is the glass screen cover that catches the ambient light and creates a glare on the screen. Of course this was not a problem at night when the sun had set. For $200 you really can't find a better player on the market.
