Digital camera reviews of Sony Dream Machine ICF-CD843V CD Clock Radio with Digital TunerDigital camera Review: Lotsa bells & whistles, but the ALARM FEATURE stinks. Summary: 1 Stars
I won't duplicate the last reviewers negatives, but I will add one really annoying peeve that has persisted over the last month that I've owned this, to the point that I wish I had returned it.
Most features on this clock radio are fair, although I confess I wasn't aware of the lack of battery backup until I read a recent review (LOVELY). But the one feature for which I really needed a new clock radio STINKS. You hit the snooze button in the morning for a few extra minutes of shuteye, maybe once or twice if you need a little more time to wake up. Most snooze features give you 9 or 10 minutes per hit, right? So you can groggily smack the clock with your sheets over your head 2, maybe 3 times, & still get to work, right? This clock radio gives you 10, then 20, then 30, then 60, then 90, then 120. WHOM, exactly, does this "work" for?? Is this a joke? This thing defeats the purpose of "snoozing"! The only way to snooze for 10 minute increments is to look up, watch for an eternity of seconds for the time to be displayed again, & THEN hit the snooze to get it back to 10 minutes. But stay ALERT, don't hit it BEFORE then, oh, no! Because then you have to stay alert LONGER to hit it enough times to get back to 10. OR you're doomed to snooze for 20 min or 60 or whatever (AND BE LATE TO WORK), OR you just get up steamed & ready to take a hammer to your "Dream Machine"--just like you really wanted to start your day. I have been up late more times with this clock than I have ever been with any other $5 Wallyworld special I have ever owned. I have been late more times than with my last cheap clock, whose snooze feature broke after a couple of years, and which this "Dream Machine" replaced. This one crackpot feature, despite all the other bells & whistles, makes this device one major waste of funds for me. And of course this critical feature is not described in the item description or even on the box (as another reviewer found too)! (sigh)
Digital camera Review: Mine died Summary: 2 Stars
I most always prefer Sony products and aside from not being able to read the time during the night I was pleased with the Dream Machine. It's compact body fit easily on a bedside table and the sound was not bad. However, it died during the day the other day...nothing that I did. It was fine when I got up and when I went to bed it was dead just as if the plug had been pulled. I have plugged it into a couple different outlets and it is dead. I've only had it a year. So disappointed. The Sony dealership charges $89 an hour for service. Not very ecological if I have to go buy a new alarm/music system. I would expect it to last more than a year, coming from Sony.
Digital camera Review: Missing earphone plug. Summary: 4 Stars
The radio and CD functions are great, as is the sound quality. But there is a strange omission of an earphone jack, which would enable one spouse to listen without disturbing the other.
Digital camera Review: Never arrived Summary: 3 Stars
The technical description of the product look great, unfortunately it was not longer available. I never received it. :-(
Digital camera Review: Nice radio Summary: 4 Stars
Works great. Sturdy build. Some nice features like the nap timer, and the ability to wake up to a CD.
