My nightstand is higher than my bed. If I want to see the time in the middle of the night I have to get up. The 3 brightness levels do not help, they just increase the backlight which does nothing for the actual information on the display. Pros - lots of settings & capabilities, sound is good, price is good, Cons - couldn't see display unless you are level with and directly in front of the unit. (kind of like computer screens from the old days) I keep my alarm clock on my nightstand like most people and the display is tilted upwards on the unit. I can't see the time at night unless I put a book under the back of the unit so that the display is vertical. The shape is unwieldy also.Digital camera Review: Dream Machine Review

For me this item is a HUGE improvement over what I had -- a 20+ years old Windsor AM-FM- LED clock radio. I love the looks, love waking up to my favorite CD or news in the morning. I have two suggestions for improvement:
1. The volume knob should be more conveniently located (maybe in the front) and should be digital.
2. The CD cover does not latch easily when shut.
But I am still in the honeymoon phase.

We had been having problems with our old reliable clock radio and its inexpensive replacements. So far, the Dream Machine has been nearly perfect. Why "nearly?" Because the nap function, a very important part of our purchase, sets nap times of 10, 20, 30, 60. ... and we would like somewhat more control. Never the less, we are able to live quite well with out "limited" choices. The learning curve on the alarm setting was steeper than expected, but not illogical. The radio reception and reproduction is very good, even for our under powered NPR station.
