Digital camera Review: Clock Dial Disappears When you Lie Down
Summary: 1 Stars

Aside from the somewhat bulky styling, my only complaint about this product is that the digital LCD display becomes invisible as your viewpoint lowers to eye-level. Visibility is fine as long as the unit is below your vantage point. My bedside table is almost as high as my bed, and with the added height of this radio, the digital readout totally disappears when I put my head on the pillow! To check the time, I have to lift my head UP out of the pillow in order to see the readout. This is the case on all three brightness settings. BTW, even the lowest brightness setting is still rather bright, which might be an annoyance for some.

I was happy with this unit in all other respects, though. As it is, I can't use it. It's going back to BestBuy.

Digital camera Review: Nice radio
Summary: 4 Stars

Works great. Sturdy build. Some nice features like the nap timer, and the ability to wake up to a CD.

Digital camera Review: Excellent!
Summary: 5 Stars

It does everything I need in an alarm clock. I regularly use the sleep feature to fall asleep listening to a relaxing CD or NPR. The nap feature is very simple and convenient.

Digital camera Review: So Far So Good
Summary: 4 Stars

Works great so far- just wish it had a headphone jack (we use it at work instead of as an alarm clock).

Digital camera Review: Poor Design makes for a frustrating unit.
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm not sure where to start in regards to this unit so I'll begin by urging anyone thinking of purchasing this unit to please read the many negative reviews on this model and take to heart our assesments. Pretty much all of the negatives have already been given by previous reviews so I'll make a short list of the issues I particularly find troublesome.

1. No Battery Backup....This is a huge...Let me say again....HUGE flaw. I can not believe Sony put out a unit assuming the power would never go out.
2. Display lighting.....Even if you are fully awake and looking with fresh eyes at the display the numbers are a challange to make out unless you are looking directly, straight-on into the display. If you're sleepy and a little disorientent when you first wake up, forget it. You'll have to go get a shower first before you'll be able to read your new Sony Dream Machine.
3. Display Lighting....No this is not a repeat. Please read previous item again....I'm not kidding.. It's terrible.
4. Controls....Arghhhh!!!!!! Teeny tiny little buttons all over the face of the unit, more teeny tiny buttons on the top of the unit, and teeny tiny silver/white print on a silver background just to make things really interesting. Again, If you're fully awake with lights on you can do fairly well with the controls but first thing in the morning these are a real bear to deal with. The main snooze button, while larger than all the other circular buttons has been so integrated in to the "smoothness" of the unit that unless you're really concentrating on feeling for the tiny little nubs (I believe there are three) on the main snooze button you'll wind up turning on the CD player and then get so frustrated trying to get everything turned back off that, by then, you'll be awake with white hot rage anyway. (Yes, I've actually seriously thought about sleepiing with a hammer just to smash the little #$%@^! into a thousand bits one morning.) Just give me a good old fashion button I can feel and smack!
5. Snooze times.....I believe another reviewer hit it on the head, why have multiple snooze times? If you accidently do 30 minutes vs. 10 min, you could be looking for another job.
6. Sound quality and CD features....OK but really, at the end of the day, it's still a glorified alarm clock. You're not going to sit around for hours listening to your favorite CD's on this thing drinking a Pina Coloda and have some kind of earth shattering, Zen experience.

Sorry Sony, I just think you guys failed miserably on this. It misses it's primary focus all together trying to be too "Pretty". Consumers...Spend $10 and buy you a generic no frills Alarm clock. You won't oversleep due to complicated, non-tactile friendly buttons, settings, and features you don't need. You won't oversleep when the power dips on a cold winter night and you loose power for a few seconds. And...You'll save yourself $40-$50 that you can spend on a system that will really be worth listening to your favorite CD's on.
