Digital camera reviews of Sony Dream Machine ICF-CD843V CD Clock Radio with Digital TunerDigital camera Review: Good product Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this to use in my twin daughters' bedroom mostly for the CD player. It was a little bit of a pain to figure out how to program it. I have a problem occasionally with the CD not playing and I'm not sure why. (I have one CD that I keep in there all the time, so it just might be getting a little dust inside.) I keep it on their armoire which means it's up high, so when I'm sitting in the rocker I can't see the time. (It's angled to be used on a nightstand) Little things, but all in all, I do like it and would buy it again. I have not tried the alarm feature so I really can't rate that.
Digital camera Review: Good, not perfect Summary: 4 Stars
We bought a similar CD/Clock radio for less and it was awful. So we put it in our room (it was the CD part that was awful). We use this in our son's room. Its nice bright display was great for those middle-of-the night feedings when I was trying to keep track of time. Big buttons were also a plus. The only downside, there's a slight clicking sound when you play CDs. But overall, it has lasted for 2-1/2 years in my 2-1/2 year old room. We're looking for another one for his big boy room now.
Digital camera Review: Great All-Around CD Clock Radio Summary: 5 Stars
This Sony CD Clock Radio offers just about everything; wake or sleep to radio or CD, wakeup to alarm, easily accessible buttons and great sound, all wrapped up in a small space and reasonably priced. Also, quick delivery by Amazon.
Digital camera Review: Great CD Clock Radio Summary: 5 Stars
This is a GREAT little CD clock radio! I've looked at A LOT of the recent (2007) offerings and, for the money, this one is very hard to beat. The CD drive is QUIET - so you can go to sleep with the CD playing and a track change isn't going to disturb you. The blue-green display (contrary to many reports) is quite readable (the amber displays in other Sony's are not as readable) - the dimmer will get the light level down to about as low as you could go and still have the display visible at night - and the daytime level is plenty bright. Setting the clock is easy if you take the time (2 minutes) to read the directions. The ONLY place one might complain is in volume. While the sound levels are adequate - you aren't going to produce a sonic boom with this unit. The volume is perfectly adequate for a bedroom or a office space but you aren't going to drown out a jackhammer with a wall of sound. That being said, the sound is clean and well balanced - it's a very good sounding unit - the best I've heard in this price range. The beeper alarm is also not going to rouse someone that needs a 120db blast wave to wake up. But it works great for me (and, I presume many others will be just as pleased). It's not jarring - but it gets progressively more intense until you shut it off or hit the snooze.
What's missing? Not much - an AUX in (for an iPod) would be "nice" - and Sony took away the headphone jack (it was in the 853 - not in the 843). The snooze is fixed at 10 min. intervals (I'd prefer to be able to change that). It doesn't show 24 hour time. A 2-5-7 alarm and true dual alarms might come in handy - But these are all minor gripes.
Amazon, as always, has a very competitive price (remember, this qualifies for FREE shipping).
How pleased am I? The day after I got mine, I bought another one for my son.
Digital camera Review: Great Price, Tricky to Program at First Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned this CD player/Clock Radio for two year. It has survived several moves, been dropped a dozen times and still comes back for more. I can't complain about the quality. The price was a little high but it fits nicely in my office. Perhaps the only problem is programming. Don't lose the owners manual, as I did, or you will have trouble programming the CD player. It once went nuts and kept looping. Without the manual, it took me an hour of playing around to get it to stop looping. The radio is not as good as the Sony clock radio I bought 4 years earlier. The speaker quality, though is excellent.
It plays all modern modes, up to about 2006. I can't speak for later modes. In fact, I recorded something recently and it failed. Read the fine print on the model you purchase and even bring along a disc so you can be sure that it will play. It may play but only allow you to play the whole disc without skipping through tracks. I have had no problem so far but who can tell.
The only question you really want answered here is: "Would I buy this product again?" Yes!
