Digital camera reviews of Sony ECMHW1 Bluetooth Wireless Microphone for DVR-DVD405, 505, HDR-SR1, UX1 & DCR-SR60, SR80, SR100 Camcorders

Digital camera Review: Price is misleading
Summary: 5 Stars

This is not a review of the product, but a review of the product information. The "retail price" shown above for this product is $327.38 which is discounted here by an 'advertised' 61%. But it can be purchased directly from the Sony website for $199. The price here is still significantly lower, but not anywhere near the reported 61% lower. To me, this seems deliberately misleading and smells of 'cheesy' merchandising but perhaps it's just an oversight.

Digital camera Review: Remote Bluetooth Mike for Sony DVR-DVD403
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought his bluetooth microphone to use on my Sony DVR-DVD403 camcorder anticipating that it would work on my unit since it had a hot shoe similar to the 405 model... and it did. It worked beautifully for picking up the audio from a solo performer who sang and played a guitar. I was about 70-80 ft away up in the balcony with the microphone clipped to the music stand in front of the performer. The audio came thru nice and clear, but unfortunately it also picked a lot of the background noise of waiters picking up dishes, etc. since the performance was near the end of dinner.

Digital camera Review: Sony Bluetooth ECMW1 Wireless Mic
Summary: 3 Stars

I have been using this mic for about 2 years. It works fine as a remote mic but it has it's limits. Considering the options I had, I would purchase it again. I have a Sony HD Camcorder that has a proprietary mic jack, so it's better than nothing.. and it's not that expensive. Regular AA batteries last less than 1 1/2 hours. If you use lithium batteries you can get 2+ hours use. It does a real good job picking up the sound from 50 ft away... haven't used it for further distances. It a bit clumsy to put on a lapel or coattail during a wedding. I have been hiding it in the area for some video sessions. It works better than using the mic on the Camcorder.

Digital camera Review: Sony Bluetooth Microphone
Summary: 4 Stars

I actually haven't used the product yet, as I purchased the mic before the Sony camcorder, and haven't made a decision on which one to buy. On the Sony website all the fair priced camcorders are no longer avail. They are only selling the high end camcorders on their website. So I may need to find a used one via Amazon.com. But the product came highly recommended, I've used it before in a speaking engagement, and that's why I decided to buy my own. The box came very professionally wrapped with all the accessories and manuals! I'm very pleased thus far!

A must have if doing beach shots or areas where wind is a problem. Doesn't go as far as I thought. If you have used this on a roller coaster ride let me know if it worked.
