Beware of the shipping on this product. The boxed camera was thrown into a larger box with NO packing to protect it. When the UPS box arrived, it had been crushed, scuffed, and kicked. Since this thing has a digital hard drive, I am amazed that Amazon would allow such carelessness. BE CAREFUL OF ORDERING ELECTRONICS OF ANY KIND FROM AMAZON. I was very excited about everything I'd read about this camera and happily bought one. However, the first time I used it for more than 20 minutes (which, alas, was after the time I could have returned it), the hard drive completely failed. I would get the warning "Buffer Overrun" or "Cannot Access HD" and it would shut down. After it happened once, the camera could not be used for more than 3 minutes without the same warning.
After I spent 97 minutes on the phone with various "Sony Customer Satisfaction Centers," I was allowed to return the camera -- at my expense -- to them for repair. They promptly and courteously sent it back with a nice little note saying they couldn't find anything wrong with it.
So I plugged it in and, after 20 minutes, "Buffer Overrun."
Uh, guys, it's the hard drive. It's faulty. Just replace it.
Sorry that this isn't so much a review of the camera. I'm sure it's a magical delight once the thing works. Just be warned that if you get this expecting to make a nice little video of your cat or your kids or a vacation, order it six months in advance and beef up your cell phone plan. You'll be spending a lot of time trying to get someone to make your $1400 work.

I do not know why. I call and return it to your company. But I still did not get my money back. The custom service is also bad. I will tell all of my friends about it and suggest them do not buy any product from your company. I will not buy any product from your company again.

I'm amazed that a tiny little camcorder like this can pack in so many features. And the quality is fantastic! I've only begun to explore the capabilities of this thing, but I'm already in love with it! And the street price is pretty darn good and getting better all the time. Don't miss out on getting hi-def video of your kids while they're still young. I used a Sony Hi8 during my daughter's early years. It did a great job, but this---well, this is at a whole new level! And you can buy inexpensive wide angle and telephoto lenses for it. I bought a 2x lens so I can get 24x optical zoom from it now. Wow!!! Should be great for all sorts of settings--nature, family, sports, whatever! And you can take 10 megapixel stills to a memory card-- on the fly-- while you're recording video to the huge 120GB built-in hard drive! What's not to like?

I already owned the SR11 so was familiar with the camera before the purchase. The SR12 just has more hard drive capability. Yeah! Amazing Tech went out of their way to ensure that I got this camera on time and quickly for an upcoming shoot. I want to let them know how happy I am with them and the camera. I don't typically buy used electronics but this camera has worked perfectly and looks just fine. Thank you Amazon.
