Digital camera reviews of Sony HTCT100 Sound Bar with Subwoofer - Black

Digital camera Review: Disappointed in functionality; returned it.
Summary: 3 Stars

I had read all the reviews and had great hopes for this product. In summary, it performed well but I decided it was not worth having to use yet another remote. Let me start by saying that I have a 47" Vizio LCD TV and I had been feeding its 2nd speaker output to a medium sized subwoofer. Just doing this improves the sound quite a bit, particularly for hearing the sound effects in movies. But I wanted better sound than what I was getting from the tiny built-in TV speakers. I also had hopes that using the Sony system would improve the voice track on DVDs that were using 5.1 encoding.

I installed the Sony sound bar and subwoofer in just a few minutes; really simple, just place the sound bar in front of the TV and connect the HDMI cables. It did sound a little better than my previous 2.1 set up, noticeably fuller, with some surround feeling.

However the provided Sony remote will not work with any of my non-Sony components (Vizio TV, DVR/cable-box, Toshiba DVD player). Likewise I could not control the sound bar volume with my Vizio remote or cable box remote. I could have purchased a good universal remote that would have worked with the Sony and other components, but that would not have given me full/simple control of often used cable-box functions (DVR, "On Demand" features, etc.).

So, not wanting to have to find the Sony remote every time I just needed to adjust the volume, I returned the Sony HT-CT100. I'll wait for the Vizio sound bar to come out next year (with a wireless subwoofer) and see if it will be a worthwhile improvement while letting me adjust the sound bar volume via the existing remote.

Digital camera Review: Dish remote control code is 766
Summary: 5 Stars

The system works great and I disagree with all those who say that the volume doesn't go high enough. One thing to be sure of is that you have high quality HDMI cables (like the Mediabridge-High Speed Cable from Amazon) going from the Dish box to the Sony HT-CTSubWoofer then another HDMI cable to the TV. The only frustration I had was to find the code so that the Dish remote could control the power on/off and volume of the Sony. Thanks to SattelliteGuys.us I found it. Its 766!

Digital camera Review: Does not play well with others
Summary: 3 Stars

I wish I had just gotten a receiver and some small speakers. Once I got it home, it's huge. The speaker bar is great, but the woofer is awful. It was easy to hook up, but its hookups are limited. I can not get any peripheral hooked up to the TV to work. For instance, I can not find a way to hook up my iPod. I have the Sony hooked up to my Toshiba TV, and I have a PS3 attached, and the TV uses Satellite. All of the features of the TV are gone, they have been transfered to the Sony. In addition, I have gained another remote control, that does not control all of my functions. It sounds ok, and I would recommend for that, but overall, I do not recommend this product, there are better options. If anyone knows how to hook up an iPod to this, please let me know.

Digital camera Review: Does the job I expected it to do
Summary: 4 Stars

This speaker system offers a simple solution to the problem of inadequate speakers on a television set. I have a Sharp TV that has very weak speakers--so weak that at full volume the dialogue of characters on TV cannot be heard over a small air conditioner. With the addition of these speakers, these characters can be heard all over the house if necessary. Additionally, I have hooked up a portable radio to these speakers, since the radio has RCA type jacks for stereo, and the radio now sounds like a high quality stereo receiver. Moreover, using the appropriate cable (a "Y" cable, I think) I sometimes run my computer through these speakers, and I can listen to Pandora Radio and satellite radio with full stereo sound. I could play my iPod through the speakers, also, but I haven't done that yet. I have only used the digital coax (for TV) and the RCA jacks (for radio and computer) so they are all I can report on.

The only criticism I might make is that these speakers claim to simulate a surround-sound effect, and they do, sort of, but not like true surround sound. I'd say if your main intention in purchasing these speakers is to enjoy surround sound effects, you'd be better off with a real 5.1 or 7.1 system. But the sound of these HTCT100 speakers is full and satisfying and well-worth the price.

Digital camera Review: EXCELLENT PRODUCT
Summary: 5 Stars

This sound bar and sub is amazing. dont spend a fortune on anything else. the price for this could be way higher for what you will receive. volume max is 50. at 40, a bottle of water 25 feet away shakes from the sound, causing the water to actually move in the bottle. the sound is incredible. you will be happy.
