When I purchased these radios for my daughters I thought they were weather alert radios. They are not weather alert radios they are either radios or weather radios, you must have them on. They did pick up stations well in my house but I do not want to have a weather radio on repeating the weather all the time. I was wanting one to alert me if bad weather moved into my area, which these probably would have if you had it on. The Sony AM/FM/TV portable radio is exactly what I hoped to find, but had been unable to locate in our local stores (Radio Shack, Wallmart, etc.). I felt the shipping cost was a bit steep, but the sales price was very reasonable. For over twenty years, my mother had a very old, ugly radio with a ludicrous antenna and a broken on/off switch (she just kept plugging it in an out). She would listen to the thing all the time - it was always set somewhere out in the open, it's antenna poking out dangerously in various directions. So when her birthday rolled around, I decided it was high time to get her a new one.
I got this for it's low price and high reviews, and even when it came in the mail I was very impressed. My mom was, too. The reception is great (we live in the country) and the TV audio is very cool (the old radio didn't have that). It's especially nice during black-outs, which we fall victim to every once in a while out here. Not only that, it looks great! I plan on getting another one for myself.
