Digital camera reviews of Sony ICF-CD7000BLK AM/FM Stereo CD Clock Radio

Digital camera Review: A pleasant surprise
Summary: 5 Stars

I am extremely happy with this clock radio! It works very well, and has a lot of neat features, even more than I had expected. For example:
1. It has two alarms (I knew about that).
2. It has a "nap" setting, so you can set it to go off in an hour or two, or 30 minutes, or ?
3. We were looking for a clock radio that had both a CD and a Cassette tape possibility (we have a LOT of cassette tapes yet!). This doesn't have that, but it has the next best thing: an input that you can use to feed the cassette music through the clock radio. That means you can wake up (or go to sleep) to CDs, Cassettes or Radio simply by putting in a little cassette player next to the clock radio. Works for us!
4. I like the fact that the alarms remain set for the next day. You simply turn them off, and they remain set, unless you choose to turn them off.
5. I also like the light- it is quite bright when you leave it on full, but it is an easy matter to turn it down, OR turn it off. We use it for a night light.Just a tap on the switch (bar) turns it down or off.
I like the fact that it is a SONY. We have had very good success with Sony products.
It does look a little strange, but it is a great machine! We are very happy with it so far (although, in all honesty, we have only used it a month or so at this point!)

Digital camera Review: A simple oversight
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a nice little device for a fair price. It feels solid and well made, which is what you would expect from Sony. Some reviewers have mentioned that the light is too bright. It is fairly bright even when dimmed, but it really doesn't bother me and it makes a convenient night light as I have it on a low shelf.

The two independent alarm settings is a great feature. Each alarm can be set for radio or CD (or a buzzer for the Spartan) and the volume level and CD track are selectable too. The display is big and easy to read, with that robust lighting that can be dimmed to a fair degree.

The sound quality is what you would expect from a small device, or maybe a little better. I wouldn't want to listen to music for very long with this, but for a wake up machine it's fine. I don't use any peripherals, so I can't comment on that, but earbuds and iPods and such can be plugged in.

The backup battery is a little disc rather than a common 9-volt or pair of AA cells. It is supposed to last a long time but replacing it might require some shopping. In any event, it is good to have the uninterrupted power supply.

What was overlooked: The volume control is tiny and is positioned discreetly along the side of the box. And it isn't even a knob! Now, this is a clock radio after all. There is no LED or even accent color to distinguish the volume button, so locating it with your finger and adjusting the volume is not as quick and convenient as it should be. Maybe the designers never used it in the dark, or they really like terraced dynamics.

Saving grace: The big wide snooze button is everything it should be.

Digital camera Review: Advanced Options (Hopefully You're not looking to tell Time)
Summary: 1 Stars

This is a beautifully designed clock radio. After failing with a previous Sony Dream Machine, I was glad to know this one had a battery back up. Unfortunately, the time display also features a back light for all of the front buttons. There are 3 brightness adjustments, however during daylight hours, it's very difficult to read (So good luck reading the clock display if there is a touch of sunlight coming in your room). If I try to place it on the brightest setting, this area of the room is filled with the bright and somewhat annoying blue light. I'm sure one could get accustomed to this, but why pay this amount of money if it's not nearly perfect?

Pros:
**Lots of functions
**Battery back up (lithium built in)
**Digital Tuner

Cons:
**Very poor clock display.
**Unable to adjust the clock display without adjusting every other button on the face at the same time.

Digital camera Review: Alarm clock
Summary: 5 Stars

I love my new alarm clock, its everything i wanted in an alarm clock and more.I read the reviews on this clock before i bought it and found some really ridicules complaints that didn't make sence as they contradicted what other reviews were saying about the clock. I think alot of people just didn't read the instructions. It has a battery back up that not only keeps the time accurate as my preveious clock did which is a good thing to have if you have alot of power outages but unlike my preveious clock it will sound the alarm useing the battery so if the power is out when its time to get up it will still sound the alarm,if you set it to the radio or cd it will switch to the buzzer as its not powerful enough to run the radio or cd.I has a blue light that lights up the hole clock all the buttons and the room, looks like a ufo landed in my bed room. It can be used as a night light,it has three setting high low and off.In the off position you just see the time with the back light. If your setting the alarm to radio or cd you can set the volume level so you don't have to worry about the clock volume getting turned down accidently and not wakeing you up.It has two alarms A and B each alarm can be set independently , you choose the radio station or cd and cd track or random so you wake up to a diffrent song every morning or the buzzer and the volume level. Its very easy to set the alarm . The snooze button which is the entire width of the clock is the light switch so it easy to dim the light or turn back on in the dark.It has a ten minute snooze but if you keep hitting the snooze button it will advance by ten more minutes up to one hour so if you change your mind about getting up early you can snooze for another hour.I am very happy with all the features of this clock and glad i decided on this one.

Digital camera Review: Alarm works during power outage; Bright display, even on dimmest
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this clock radio for the following reasons:

Gentle Wake feature - It starts with a single beep, and this is enough to wake me up. It then progresses to the beeps getting faster, but I've slammed on the snooze by then. Snooze button is easy to find when you're half-dead, by the way.

CD repeat function - A big thing for me. My husband has an alarm clock that's very similar to this one, but his doesn't have a CD repeat option. We listen to a rain CD to fall asleep to, and I always hated that if I woke in the middle of the night, I'd have to reach over to start the CD again, because a silent bedroom drives me nuts. With this Sony alarm clock, the rain continues all night long. The CD automatically stops playing when my alarm goes off.

It looks cool - it made my husband envious for my alarm clock. It has a smaller footprint than his clock, too, so I've got more room for a lamp and other stuff on my bedside table.

Only downside is that the display seems really bright to me, even on its dimmest setting. I do like a pitch black room, though, it's hard for me to sleep with any light. The problem is solved by throwing a dark colored pillowcase over the alarm clock, and that blocks the light from the display. Can't see the time if I wake up without lifting a corner of the pillowcase, but I'm fine with that, I'm never too curious about what time it is in the night.

I've had this alarm clock for over 6 months, and I'm very happy with it.

**UPDATE** Year and a half later and I wanted to mention that not only does this alarm clock remember what time it is after a power outage, but the alarm does work during a power outage as well. You won't see numbers on the alarm clock, but whatever time you set the alarm for, the alarm will sound even if the power is out. Very nice feature if you're worried that there will be a power outage in the morning before work, this alarm will get you up in time without fail.
