Digital camera reviews of Sony ICF-CD815 AM/FM Stereo CD Clock Radio with Dual Alarm

Digital camera Review: A Very Good Basic CD Alarm Clock Radio
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this to replace my ancient alarm clock and to double as a CD player in the bedroom. For what I paid for it, I am very happy with this product. A big bright display, dual alarms, and easy to use. Not only can it get loud enough, but the sound quality is not that bad. You can set a CD track as your alarm sound, which I love; hate waking up to an annoying buzzing sound, don't know how I put up with it before. The radio dial is in an awkward location, as is the volume dial; I guess Sony had to make room for the CD player on top. There is also a auxilary cable to connect mp3 players but I haven't tried to use it yet, as I didn't get this product for that feature. While a backup battery feature would have been nice, I knew what I was getting and cannot complain.

Digital camera Review: A great Multi-Tasker Alarm Clock
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great product. I wanted something that I could l isten to relaxing music as I fell asleep OR the radio...this has everything I wanted except I can't make cds repeat when they are done playing. I like the input line--that will give me more options with my MP3 player.

Digital camera Review: A great product!
Summary: 5 Stars

This product has really been a great asset to my bedroom. The controls are easy to use and I can receive most of my favorite radio stations. This clock/radio/cd player allows you to select specific tracks and setting the alarm is very simple. You can wake up to your favorite track, radio station, or the buzzer. The only thing I may not like about this product is the fact that the buzzer has a low pitch sound, but it increases in intervals. Specifically, the alarm sounds in five seconds and then gradually goes to three, and finally every second. The product also allows you to adjust the brightness of the clock in three settings. Overall, I'm happy with this product.

Digital camera Review: A seemingly great product with a glaring omission...
Summary: 2 Stars

I'm so bummed. I just got home with this clock radio, and I now realize that I have to take it back to the store (not Amazon). I'd researched this product a while back, and I was aware that it didn't have a battery backup at that time, but I saw it in a local retailer here in Dallas, and their shelf tag listed "battery backup" as one of the features. I thought, "Oh, I guess Sony realized the goof and upgraded this model to include the obviously-necessary battery backup." No such luck, and shame on me for not reading the product box itself to confirm that the feature was present - I didn't, and it ain't. It boggles my mind that a company like Sony has not wised up to such a blatant design flaw in an otherwise excellent product.

Oh, well, maybe I'll buy another Emerson Research clock radio - I've had good luck with them, and I don't have to worry if the power fails.

Digital camera Review: ANALOG tuner, and will not actually play MP3 CDs, otherwise fine.
Summary: 4 Stars

I own one of these ICF-CD815 units, have used it for over a year. It's simple to use, and sturdy enough.

The product description (unless they've updated it) says it has a DIGITAL AM/FM tuner, which is not correct. It's the low-tech analog dial; you have to "tune by ear" to get the station you want.

The product description also "suggests" it will play a CD-R disk loaded with MP3 files, which is not correct. But you can play a CDR/RW disc burned in regular audio format, which is still fairly useful.
