Digital camera reviews of Sony ICF38 Portable AM/FM Radio (Black)Digital camera Review: Been looking for a Gift for a while now.... Summary: 4 Stars
I want to buy a gift for my aunt who is 84 years old, not tech oriented, and I want to get here a radio so that when we have power outages she can tune in on the the weather and listen to the news as well. At first I thought, ok get a weather radio but honestly she's probably never going to use that aspect and how long the batteries last is a factor as well as how strong the signal is. After much looking and reading reviews I decided on this. only grip is it's 5 cents below the free shipping.
Digital camera Review: Best Radio for the Money Summary: 5 Stars
I'll make this short and sweet. You can't beat this radio for the price. It is sturdy, reliable and even picks up distant stations as well as the CC or Super Radios. I just ordered another one to use in another location in the house. I still own the ICF 24 that is at least 15 years old, has been dropped and beat up, but it works as well as day one.
Digital camera Review: Best portable radio I ever owned Summary: 5 Stars
This is thew best portable radio I've ever owned. I expected the FM reception to be good and it is very good but the AM reception is great also. Distant stations come in fine. Who needs digital tuning, this radio works jest fine and the stations lock in and do not drift.
It would be slightly better if the tuning and volume were on different sides of the radio, but once you get used to the positions it works out.
It only uses four AA bateries so that saves money and the ac cord is built in so it won't get lost.
For this price I would buy it again.
Digital camera Review: Big and simple Sony radio Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this new model Sony radio for my wife after her old Sony radio, the forerunner to this model finally died after many years. It doesn't have TV bands because of the new digital TV rules, so it is a simpler radio, limited to AM and FM only. For that purpose, it works very well, probably the best radio out there. We also have a small Panasonic, but it doesn't compare as far as sound quality goes. So, whatever size speaker this Sony radio has (3"?) it sounds much better than the tinny speakers on a smaller "pocket" radio. The analog tuner works well and lights up when the station is tuned in properly. A weather band would have been nice, but it doesn't have one.
The radio is not small, but it sounds good, and i'm sure it will last for years. It seems to be a worthy successor to the old model, which was very popular. Sony usually makes a good product and this radio is no exception. If you don't need pocketability this is the radio for you.
Digital camera Review: Big speaker, big sound Summary: 4 Stars
This is an old-fashion radio, with a big speaker and real dials and switches. From the big readable tuning dial to the retractable antenna, this baby screams "old school". Too bad the tuner drifts a bit...But this is meant for taking to the beach, lounging by the pool, where it is close to hand for changing--and adjusting--the stations. Even has the old handle that makes it easy to carry. No short-wave, no electronic tuning--just a good simple radio that delivers better sound. Amazing that you just put a couple of AA cells in this thing--looks like it should take bigger batteries! And it is funny to see the small circuit board that does all the work sitting in a space that could hold a LOT more! But you need the cabinet to get the speaker, and THIS is what makes those little silver ersatz "Grundigs" eat their hearts out.
