At the time I ordered the radio I made a stupid oversight by assuming all radios are now digital tuning. This radio requires you to tune in stations with a knob and is extremely difficult to keep on a station. As long as you are extremely close to a radio tower I am sure it gets good reception but otherwise I do not recommend. I needed a radio to hear the morning news as I washed up. (Previous radio had collapsed inexplicably after 30 years.)Panasonic tells me not to splash water on it and I try to be careful. I purchased this radio to replace my RCA radio that lasted only a single beach season before malfunctioning. I bought this on reviews alone, and little did I know this would be the best purchase of the last calender year for me.
This radio sounds fantastic! The reception is unbelievable, and this radio can pick up signals that my auto cannot. It produces a very loud, clear sound that doesn't become distorted, even at high levels.
I can attest to the durability of this radio. We take it to the beach multiple times a week, and it has survived many drops in the sand, sprays of salt-water, and even the occasional light-rain shower. The radio fell out of a bike-basket and survived a 3 foot drop onto asphalt with nothing more then a few surface scratches.
Battery life is AMAZING. On 4 AA alkaline batteries, this radio has run daily since the 12th of April, and now it's the 6th of September. Almost 5 months without a single battery change and without a noticeable drop in sound quality, even with the volume turned up.
This radio is a little larger for a portable, but still is very easy to pack inside a backpack, beach bag, or just to carry. One would be hard pressed to find a flaw with this unit. The headphone jack is mono, but I cannot see myself ever using headphones with this radio.

Hi. This radio is very easy to use. Tuning, band, and volume controls are simple and can be operated even if you find moving things with your hands difficult. The radio works very well in most of the house. In the basement the reception is full of white noise and the signal fades in and out. If you put this unit on a switched circuit (e.g. a light circuit or you cut a on/off switch into the line) so you can put it in hard to reach places it will work. The internal on/off switch on the radio stays where it is set. Other radios internal switch automatically goes to the off state when power is cut. It's worth it for the money if you use this radio in normal living areas. If you need it to work in the basement buy a Sangean.Digital camera Review: Exactly what I wanted
