Digital camera reviews of Sony MDR-E828LP Fontopia Earbuds with Winding CaseDigital camera Review: Cheap & Good Summary: 5 Stars
These earphones are the best I ever had. I never had to try other pairs of earphone because I absolutely loved these that I keep buying it! After 6 years I buy the same one everytime. Of course I never use the winding case and it just sits there but heck it usually stores my other earphones that I brought but can't seem to throw them out because it costed money. It seems that many people are complaining about the electrical shocks from the earphones and I can answer why thats happening. It's actually static electricity. I experienced it myself a couple of times because I was wearing a wool sweater and the wool peacoat jacket that caused static electricity to form. It's actually not the earphones fault but when your wearing lots of clothes or a scarf with the earphones I suggest you switch to headphones to prevent being shocked. The bass is pretty decent when comparied to panasonic or jvc earphones. Hey for 10 bucks or less you can't except Sony to go all out and improve their cheapest model. I abuse my earphones so for 10 bucks a year I think these are the best rather than buying something thats $100 dollars or over and later regret it because it got either lost, broken or stolen.
Digital camera Review: Cheap Earphones that bang for the buck Summary: 4 Stars
I had gotten these earphones years ago, and loved them (for the price), but sadly had to retire them since my cat chewed through the cord one night. I had gotten another pair for my mom when i got her a cd player for christmas long ago. I also have gotten another for my brother since he has gotten into music.
These are probably some of the best "low-end" earphones. these fit comfortably in your ear (well mine), and provide very good sound. There isnt a lot of base, and the highs are a little weak, but overall unless you are a serious audiophile (which i consitter myself somewhat) you will be satisfied. they also come with pads that you can put on them, which may make a better fit, and possibly just plain out more comfortable. i prefer them without because it stays closer to your ear and doesnt muffle the sound as much.
if you are in the $10 range for a cheap pair of earphones you can shove in your pocket or take on trips this is good for you. I would however, if you are looking for VERY GOOD sound in earphones and a low price range, the Koss KSC75 is a better investment, if you dont mind the clips.
And also as a student, these were great for hiding under my hair or even under a hood or hat. they also allow some ability to hear things around you if you have them low so you can hear if the teacher calls on you.
Digital camera Review: Cheap Price - EXCELLENT Audio Summary: 5 Stars
Don't be fooled by the pricetag - these are high quality earbuds. They offer some of the best bass i have found in earbuds for under $100. I am also a big fan of the slightly oblong speaker shape that allows you to snugly fit them into your ear without pushing real deep. Most earbuds are too large and push out on the cartilage, causing pain after about a half-hour of listening. These are the perfect size.
I generally stray from earbuds as more and more research has shown how detrimental they are to your hearing. With these, I can monitor the sound level (usually at about 60% on my ipod's volume scale) without compromising audio quality and the much sought after bass. The carrying case is very functional and super easy to use.
The only issue that I would forsee here is in quality control over a bad batch of speakers. Check the packaging as mine came with a warranty (although i purchased them at a small, discount odds-and-ends shop in NYC)

...And they were less than 10 dollars.
I have purchased many earphones, but to a lot of disappointment, since I knew that every time I would get them, I would have to compromise sound quality for size and ease of use. However, having 10 dollars in my pocket and my eye on these Sony MDR-E828LP's, I tried the earbud experience for one last time.
Fortunately, my "last" experience was phenomenal and much better than expected. The 9mm Nd magnets and circuitry made these sound somewhat comparable to my Studio Series headphones (which much difference, of course). The cord length is perfectly suited for these types of headphones, but the design is slightly flawed, depending on whom buys the headphones.
The sound quality is definitely better than any other earbud that I have tried, however I am sure that it cannot be compared to the quality of Shures or Sennheisers, as those are the de facto companies for professional sound. The bass is somewhat lacking, however the mid and high frequencies are definitely clear and crisp. However, that is only with the foam earpieces on. Operating them without the cushions makes a world of difference, since it completely diminishes the low frequency and alterting the mid and high frequencies noticably.
The question of design is concering comfort, as good sound also compromises the comfortability level of these earphones. Wearing these headphones for an hour or so is comfortable; it is after that hour of listening that the pain begins. After two hours or so of listening, one begins to feel as if your ears have been cut on the inside, especially without the foam covers. However, the reason why I say that it is dependent on WHOM buys the product is because the construction inside of my ear is small, and that could have affected the comfort of these earphones.
All aspects considered, the E828LP is a very smart and cost-effective buy for somewhat premium sound. Of course, nothing short of high-quality is expected of a Sony product.
Digital camera Review: Cheap, Good, and Rugged Summary: 5 Stars
Bottom line: these headphones will last you a while, cost less than a CD, and sound great.
I had a pair that I used for 6 years. I was not nice to them. I crumpled them up and stuffed them into bags and pockets, accidentally sat on them or dropped things on them, had them yanked out of my ears when I tripped or dropped my MP3 player, and basically beat them into the ground. The connection never weakened, and I never had any problem with broken wiring (and that's happened to me with much more expensive headphones than these). Finally, one of the buds shattered. They still work, mind you, but the plastic cracked in several places and the speaker came loose from the housing.
I had them for 6 years, and I got them SECOND HAND from a friend who doesn't exactly take good care of his things.
I'm going to buy a new pair soon.
Oh, and I actually like the non-circular shape. The perfectly symmetrical ones (like the Apple earbuds) are too small for my ears and don't feel snug enough. I've worn these for hours on end, and they might pinch a little after a day of using them, but it's nothing that doesn't go away in a few minutes.
Best $8 you can spend on headphones.
