Digital camera reviews of Sony MDR-E828LP Fontopia Earbuds with Winding CaseDigital camera Review: Cheap, but not spectacular. Summary: 3 Stars
Some mp3 players come with terrible earphones, making these a good value. Otherwise, they're pretty average--I'd probably go with the Koss Plug earphones instead.
Digital camera Review: Clear sound but not so good as older one Summary: 3 Stars
I have read most reviews from this site and bought it.
Most people say that it is good buy for its cheap price.
Right! It is still cheap. When I bought my old Fontopia in 1992, it was $10 or so (it was made in Japan, though). This one is still $10 in 2007, which actually means the price got down.
Overall, for its price it provides very clear and sharp sound, but the bass is not so good as my 1992 version, which is disappointing.
One last thing that forced me to return this is its inconsistent assembly.
I received a defective one with louder left channel. I know it is not general problem of this product, but the product quality should be consistent for all individual items.
Digital camera Review: Compare to V-Moda Remix M-Class and Sennheiser MX-400 Summary: 3 Stars
I bought the Sennheiser MX-400 (currently $12.00) as a replacement for the Sony MDR-E828LP (currently $10.00) that broke (no fault of the product--it got caught on something) and I bought a pair of V-MODA Remix M-Class Earbuds (currenlty $39.00 black/silver).
I will say I am definitely not an audiophile which might explain that I did not find much difference among the four (original earbuds from I-Pod also tested). I used a techno song with heavy bass as my benchmark. Also, I compared two at a time with one earbud in each ear and just switch the plug in the I-Pod. Although the V-MODA sounded the best overall, it was not significantly different. Plus, the price is 4x that of the Sony. I tested all four with and without the cushions (best sound is with the cushions, but again this is negotiable).
Bottom line, the MX-400 is the best of the four for balance of price and quality, but spending $12 for slightly better than original equipment isn't worth it. Same is true for the Sony even though it is slightly less expensive.
NOTE: in my research for what specs to look for, every source said headphones will sound different to each person because of ear shape and head size/shape. Therefore, test earbuds for yourself.
Why 3-stars then? Because the earphones did sound better and the price isn't bad (except for the V-MODA). So, if you really want to replace the original earbuds, these are not bad.
Digital camera Review: Considering the price, these are fantastic! Summary: 4 Stars
When my good headphones got broken, I needed a quick and cheap fix until I could afford some more high quality ones. I'm not a fan of ear buds, but after reading reviews here I decided to pick a pair of these up. I am not disappointed.
Despite their size and price tag, these ear buds pack quite a punch. I was downright amazed by the sound quality, which is simply incredible. For under ten dollars, you can't get better sound. Also, the winding case is a very nice touch. I can keep my headphones from getting tangled, and it only takes about five seconds to get them back in the case.
My only real gripes are that the cord is only a meter, far too short if you want to have any freedom of movement when listening. Also, they pop out of your ears too easily, especially because they're short. However, such a problem is minor considering the price and quality of these ear buds.
Digital camera Review: Convenient and nice sound Summary: 5 Stars
The headphone is very convenient because it has Sleek black and silver metallic housing. I am using it with my PDA. It is easy to storage and carry. It is good for traveller. Moreover, the sound is not bad, especially the base. I feel like there is a drum near my ear. I am fully satisfaction with this US$9 product.
