Digital camera reviews of Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia Headphones

Digital camera Review: Bassless claims
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm sorry, guys, but I have to agree that the bass on these things is simply awful. Yes, I've tried the different size earpieces and I've made sure they're in all the way to create a proper seal and so on and so on, but the sound is still totally pathetic. I'm no bass-hungry kid, either. I wouldn't care if the bass was just a little bit weak, but this is just not acceptable.

Maybe it's a manufacturing thing. Maybe most of the reviewers here are getting perfectly good units, and some percentage are getting units that are actually defective and should be returned. It actually doesn't matter. Judging by the reviews that percentage must be pretty high. I don't continue purchasing from vendors with those kinds of defect rates and I don't recommend them to anyone else either.

Digital camera Review: Best Buds!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had read all the reviews before I purchased my 51's but couldn't find what info I was looking for, so I went ahead and got them anyway. So now I can turn around and offer that detail to others.

These are NOT "canal-phones" that depend on insertion into your actual canal. They combine 2 things that make them way different than most other "earbuds." First, the "driver" is very, very small (seems about half what standard buds use). So it, in and of itself, does NOT fill your outer ear, or even make a large presence there as other buds do. Second, there are very, very soft rubbery "ear pads." These fit over the drivers and include a very thin "outer layer" that sits a tad away from an "inner tube" that fits over the driver.

This thin outer layer essentially fills the space between the driver and your outer ear. Thus you get a bit of "closed system" by the nature of the ear pads. There were 3 different sizes of these items. While my outer ear is just too small for standard white iPod earbuds, the "large" size ones work best here. Medium works but small does not.

The effect is that you achieve an amount of sound isolation. Maybe not as much as canal-phones, but IMO better because they don't isolate you too much. Rode the subway last night listening to some classical and I was very happy that a good portion of the incredible noise down there was attenuated. Plus they are far, far more comfortable than canal-phones (to be honest I have only tried the Ety's). Plus they are "more secure," in that they go in very easily and do not "come loose" as most other buds do.

I am a bit concerned about the couple of tales of insulation degradation, but Sony has been doing this so long, I'm not sure we're talking major defect as opposed to a bad batch of insulated cable that got through production and QA. I'm also concerned about the seeming unavailability of replacement ear pads.

Digital camera Review: Best Deal
Summary: 5 Stars

These are great all around buds. The feel alittle fragile so be careful when you store them. Aside from that, they are comfy and sound is clear.....Buy them to replace your mp3 stock set of phones.

Digital camera Review: Best Earphones So Far
Summary: 5 Stars

I am so surprised at how many bad reviews this product has. Ive had this set of earphones for approximately 8 months and i have to say that they are the best i have ever used. Ive been an earphone addict since middle school. The bass on them is excellent and the noise canceling works like magic. i am able to listen to my music while in the back of a car with a 1000 watt stereo system at full blast. seriously, these are one of the best earphone sets out in the market today.

Digital camera Review: Best Earphones You can get for this price!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have to admit, there are some things that Sony products does poorly on (such as desktops), but when it comes to audio products, Sony is one of the best!

I have had several earphones in the past, but they weren't in-ear types. My brother bought this earphone first and I had a chance to test it out. It had blown my mind on how you can actually hear bass on earphones!! It also cancels out 'a lot' of outside noise!

My friends have just tested out these earphones and they were amazed as well. Highly recommended by me, who have been listening to mobile music all my teenage years.
