Digital camera reviews of Sony MDR-J10 h.ear Headphones with Non-Slip Design (Black)

Digital camera Review: Cheap headphones, good for sport, don't expect Best quality for the price though
Summary: 5 Stars

These headphones are surprisingly good. For 12 dollars or less, one can't expect to get top-quality sound, but that's not the main purpose of these headphones. I've found these to be great for althetic activities as they won't fall out of your ears like earbuds have the tendency to do. Also, my first pair of these lasted me three years, not bad for an investment that cost me little over 10 dollars. If you're looking for top-quality sound, these headphones aren't right for you. But if you're looking for a pair of headphones that are durable, comfortable, and easy to store, these are the best option.

Digital camera Review: Cheap, fast shipping, low quality
Summary: 2 Stars

This set of headphone is cheap. As a result doesn't have a good quality.
The construction is not good, giving a feeling of some very cheap plastic.
The sound quality is flat, not appealing for any kind of music.
It is loose. I don't understand how such a designed for sport headphone cannot stay on my ears firmly; it cannot fit into ears well either, 1/3 of the "head part" is out of ear.

However, for such a price, this headphone is ok. I just use it for working out at gym so I wouldn't tear up my good one.
The shipping is really good! It's free shipping and arrived within 2 days. Amazing!

Digital camera Review: Comfort over clarity
Summary: 3 Stars

I like the Sony MDR-J10 earphones enough that I've gone through several pairs of them.

Why several pairs?

To start, they do have a tendency to fail under normal use. I use them primarily to listen to music at my desk while I work, and occasionally on long bus trips. Nothing too strenuous. But, even when not being jostled around, the wiring will invariably go funky in one 'phone or the other, leaving you with a reduced level of response, or none at all on that side. Sometimes, you can correct this by adjusting the R/L balance, but more often than not, this is a temporary solution at best, necessitating replacement.

That being said, I keep buying new pairs, because the cons outweight the pros.

First, they're cheap. At between $10-15 from most retailers/online sellers, it's tough to beat the price. And at the risk of contributing to a disposable society, chucking them and getting a new pair is no sweat.

Second, the sound isn't bad. MP3's and CD's alike sound crisp and clean through them. And I'm a musician, so I'm pretty picky. That being said, as others have pointed out, the bass response is admittedly quite poor. Even with serious EQ'ing to boost it, the low end delivery of these 'phones is just BARELY adequate. It's there, but not to a very satisfying degree. Fine for Pop and Rock music, but Hip-Hop, R&B and House fans will be extremely disappointed by the lack of punch. They also tend to distort a little at higher volumes, but they have to be almost uncomfortably loud before this happens.

Still, there's one feature above all others that keeps me coming back to these earphones: The comfort. These are hands-down the most comfortable in-ear earphones I've ever used. Because of the contoured "hook"-style ear mounts, the buds themselves don't need to wedge uncomfortably against the sides of your ear canals to stay put. Literally EVERY other in-ear style 'phones I've ever used have been painful to wear, leaving my ears sore after an hour or two because of their design. But the MDR-J10's are so comfortable, the marketing-speak actually applies: you really do forget you have them on. So, while I've used other 'buds with much better sound, they didn't do me much good because I couldn't stand to wear them for long. The sacrifices in sound quality are worth me being able to use them all day without actual pain forcing me to take them out.

Also, in addition to being comfortable, they're stable. You put them on, and they stay put until you take them off. They don't slip, fall out, or even move much, if at all. And yes, I'm mostly sitting a desk and typing most of my day, but I move my head around a lot, and they don't budge. And more than anything, this combination of ease of wear and really effective lightweight stay-put design are the reason I keep buying them, even if they break pretty easily and the sound is really only okay.

Overall, don't expect high-end dynamic response or a lifetime of usage, but for an inexpensive earphone that gets the job done and is actually comfortable to wear for extended periods of time, I do recommend the MDR-J10's.

Digital camera Review: Comfortable
Summary: 4 Stars

These headphones are super comfy and they won't slip out like regular ones. Cool product!

Digital camera Review: Comfortable earphones that work
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm so satisfied with my earphones I'm considering ordering another pair. They fit into the ear so the effectiveness is enhanced and they are more comfortable than the kind that sit on the outside of your ear with the foam cushions. I use mine in the courtroom and not only do they monitor my tape recorder, but they amplify the sound which makes my work easier. And the way they fit around the back of the ear they are less noticeable. When transcribing they are more effective too. Wonderful technology for so little money.
