Digital camera reviews of Sony MDR-NC50 Noise Canceling Headphones

Digital camera Review: Good for the price.
Summary: 4 Stars

These aren't Bose headphones and they don't cost $300. I used them on several flights - both international and domestic and they proved to be of quality.

They don't filter out all of the airplane noise, but do reduce is dramatically.

Digital camera Review: Good noise canceling, good price
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought a Coby noise canceling headphone but the arms broke in my first trip, so I decided to buy a better one this time. I didn't want to spend $300+ on something that I don't use that often, so I choosed these Sony ones.

$120 is a good deal for these headphones. The noise canceling performance is excellent. The only thing is, as many reviewers mentioned, the left headphone gives out some funny noise if you don't put it at the right spot, and it is kind of annonying. But other than that, everything else is good.

Digital camera Review: Good noise cancelling but slightly uncomfortable
Summary: 3 Stars

I am a heavy duty traveller piling on 120,000 miles annually so use these a lot. In comparison to the Bose Quiet Comfort 2 the Sony's do a slightly better job at cancelling out low frequency jet engine noise. The Bose do a better job at mid range cancellation. The downside of the Sony's are they are less comfortable. The headphones clamp quite tightly around your head and my ears tend to ache after several hours of use. The headphones do not fold over themselves and are quite large when packed (they do fold flat). My biggest complaint is that Airbus A320 and A319 aircraft engines tend to cause intermittent howling feedback especially when the engine speed changes - which is very annoying. Strangely enough, Boeing aircraft do not cause this problem.

Digital camera Review: Good, but...
Summary: 4 Stars

My office is very noisy. I was in the market for something to eliminate the back ground garbage.

After going to the local retail store to try on a few headphones I decided to purchase the MDR-NC50. I did not what to pay the much higher retail price so I visited Amazon.

The MDR-NC50 met my two requirements.
1. Cancel/Eliminate back ground noise - These headphones do a great job at cancelling out the noise (Air Conditioner running, telephones ringing at co-workers desk, and the voice of a VERY loud Project Manager that sits around the corner).

2. Comfort - The MDR-NC50 are comfortable for the most part. They fit my ears very well. However, the connecting arm creates a tender spot on the top of my head after extended wear.

I have notice one issue. On occasion, with the headphones on, I notice a squeaking sound of plastic on plastic when I move my head around (left/right - up/down). The noise comes from the two connection points on the left headphone side. The noise is very annoying. The noise is even more prevalent while chewing gum with the headphones on.

If it were not for the fact that they do a good job of canceling out the other noise in my office, I might consider returning them.

Digital camera Review: Great Headphones for cancelling noise but heavier than I would have liked
Summary: 4 Stars

I think these are great for the job of Cancelling Noise but if you plan to wear them for more than a couple of hours in a plane go for something lighter.

My personal experience was that after wearing them for a couple of hours they felt heavier on the head and even caused a slight stiff-neck.
