Digital camera reviews of Sony MDR-NC50 Noise Canceling HeadphonesDigital camera Review: Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
I've road tested these headphones pretty well, having used them on several plane trips, including one to Prague via London, as well as in a car to watch DVDs during a 10 hour trip from Austin to Santa Fe. Also, my wife uses the Bose, so I had a chance to directly compare performance. Succintly stated, I love these things. Its noise cancelling abilities are equal to the Bose. As a matter of personal preference, I like the Sony's look and feel better than the Bose. They feel more solid, much less "plasticky", and frankly more luxurious and sleek. The leather (faux or real - not quite sure) on the earphones is supple and its inclusion on the padded headrest reinforces my preference.
Here's the "but." Although the Sony's audio is really good, it is not as rich as the Bose. As some have speculated, this may be function of the source; an unpowered MP3 player. However, the Bose doesn't care about its source, producing the same rich sound regardless. As a rebuttal to the difference in sound quality, you have to make a personal decision about whether you want to pay $300.00 to Bose for great sound, or $100.00 to Sony for really good sound.
Finally, some have complained of an occassional whine on airplanes. As stated, I've used these phones for dozens of hours in multiple planes, cars and other environments, and never experienced the whine.

My husband loves these. He says they are as good as those other more expensive ones.
Digital camera Review: Great Value Summary: 5 Stars
I've had to travel alot during my time in the military, included a trip to and from Iraq and these head phones have made time in the plane a hundred times more bearable. As soon as I put them on the outside world is silenced and the only sound heard is that which is coming from my laptop, ipod, or DVD player. The single AAA battery is nice since I can always carry extras as opposed to rechargables which don't do much good while on a plane and the included airplane adapter makes it nice to watch the in-flight movies. For $100, you really can't beat it and unless you want to spend $300+, you're going to enjoy these headphones.
Digital camera Review: Great alternative to Bose QC2. Summary: 4 Stars
These head phones sound incredible. The sound quality is like a speaker system, and they are a great companion with my iPod video. These cancel out a large percentage of noise, but not as well as the Bose headphones, of course they cost 3 times as much. With the noise cancelling feature on, i cant here a TV on at a regular volume in the same room. It is near immpossible to hear other peoples conversations, and they effectively drain out all car and plain noise. These come with adapters for a plane and stereophone, which come in handy, and also a case. My only complaint is that while wearing them for an extended period time, like a 2 hour car ride, they can become uncomfortable. Namely the top strap can hurt, and even give you a headache if it is in the wrong spot. The ear cups are perfectly comfortable. Overall I would reccomend these for someone who wants a cheaper version of the Bose QC2 set.
Digital camera Review: Great for the price Summary: 4 Stars
My Bose headphones fell apart at the headband-phones joint, and I didn't feel like parting with another $300, so I picked up the Sonys. They are a little more sturdy, shouldn't break apart in the same way. The noise cancellation works fine, and the noise reduction even when they are off is good (I do follow the FAA rule of turning off all electronics for take-off and landing). The only downside I have noticed is that if you press on the outside of the headphones you get a pretty annoying feedback. It startled me awake the first time it happened. Not a perfect solution, but still great headphones.
