Digital camera Review: "Business Travelers number one rated headphones!"

I hate giving bad reviews, but I think they're the most important for the electronic consumer population and general direction of electronic products in the future.
Maybe I purchased a lemon, maybe my listening preferences didn't mesh with these phones, or maybe this product simply sounded horrible. Sony is extremely clever at marketing and determining price-points for their products. Here's some examples:
- Noise-canceling headphones under $50 is a great price-point because all other noise-canceling phones on the market cost $150 plus. There's simply no competitors.
- The words "noise-canceling" conjures up images of nice phones that have new and better technology. Why buy a similar on-ear phone for the same price when you can buy the Sony WITH noise-canceling technology?
- The sticker on the front of these Sony's states that "Travelers Business" rated these the best phones to purchase in 2009. Really? Wow. Since when did Travelers Business become a reputable (and professional) opinion in electronic products? I guess this is justified by the assumption that business travelers use phones all the time since their traveling on airplanes all week for work, which makes them reputable in knowing a good noise-canceling phone for those long and loud trips. It's a ploy, don't make the same mistake!
This is why they sound horrible:
- Imagine iPod earphones encased in an on-ear platform that produces bass that sounds like your finger tapping on cardboard and steam hissing out of a boiler.
- I my opinion, you're paying for noise-canceling technology. This seems to be the cause of a soft background sound that hisses, while artificially covering ambient noise from the outside.
- Because all of the money went into providing the consumer with noise canceling technology, the quality of the drivers suffer, which makes the music sound flat and dead. Seriously, I compared my iPod phones with these for more than an hour...my iPod phones reproduced better bass and a more realistic sound stage!

Verdict:
It's unlikely that there's a demo in the stores where these phones can be purchased at. This is unfortunate because we all have our own listening preferences. With this being said, some of you may actually enjoy these phones, which may be suitable for your life-styles (like business travelers).

Noise Canceling Technology
Noise canceling headphones reduce ambient noise to provide a quieter environment for audio entertainment. The headphones have an inside microphone on each earpiece that works with electronic circuitry to create oppositely phased sound waves that reduce, or phase out, the ambient noise sound waves.
The MDR-NC7 reduce up to 87.4% (9 dB at 300 Hz) of ambient noise when the noise canceling circuit is switched on, ideal for loud, noisy environments like planes, buses, dorms, etc.
Listen With or Without Noise Reduction
Convenient dual-use capability gives you the option of listening to your music with or without the noise cancelation feature, so you can enjoy unaffected music in quiet environments. This also allows you to keep using your headphones (minus noise reduction) when the batteries run dry.
On-Ear Design
Many of the noise canceling headphones out there are earbuds; these are ideal for someone who prefers an external phone. The phones rest gently on your ear, with an adjustable headband to get a good fit. And good sound--a neodymium magnet provides excellent power-handling, and 30-millimeter drivers deliver quality sound with a frequency response of 20 Hz - 30 kHz.
Ready for Travel
The MDR-NC7's noise reduction is powered by a single AAA battery, and when not in use the phones feature a foldable, swivel design. Fold small and compact and slip into the included carry pouch and you're good to go. An airplane adapter is also included for in-flight entertainment (stereo or dual jack).
