Digital camera reviews of Sony PRS-505/LC Blue Digital Book Reader

Digital camera Review: Absolutely Fantastic
Summary: 5 Stars

Just bought this a week ago - got a good deal on one on Craigslist. My favorite thing about this is I can download ebooks from my library for free and they work great on the reader. Nice to not have to spend a fortune on books. The Sony eBook website is good too. Nice selection, and the best sellers are offered at 9.99, which seems okay. I downloaded 3 library books, bought two from the Soney eBook site and had them on my reader in minutes. I'm on my computer every day, so it's really not a big deal for me to not have wireless downloads since I am using it for just reading books.

It's very sturdy, well made, and the controls seem very well thought out. The screen is wonderful - it's like reading a real book. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Digital camera Review: Absolutely adore my sony reader (prs-505, blue)
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first heard about the ereaders I had to have one. I read a 600 page novel in about 10-12 hours, so for me to have something so compact (I ran out of room with my bookcases) is just AWESOME! I was comparing it to the Sony 700, but to be honest, I never had a backlight on my paperbacks or a dictionary, or a touchscreen to highlight phrases. If you are a book lover buying this to read, it's perfect for you. If you're buying this to do anything other than reading you will be disappointed. I've only had mine for a short time, so I'll add something later and let everyone know how's it's working out. But so far... love it! Haven't tried to read pdf's, love the collection part, love it!

PRO's: Screen is really clear, everything is set-up super easy as far as menu options and book selection. Software is do-able, not too shabby. Battery lasts forever. 2 slots for memory cards (SD and pro duo memory stick) that can hold a ridiculous amount of books. Also it has a metal casing that makes it feel sturdy but not heavy. Buttons are in excellent positions.Love the fact that it's so simple to use.

CON's: Price sucks; new version is only 50 bucks more (make the 505 a tad bit cheaper), book selection is not that good (but not that bad either). As far as reader itself, no complaints.

I'm overall happy with this and would recommend it to someone else.

UPDATE: I have had my reader for about 3 months now and I still love it. I love the simplicity of it. I don't really use the MP3 part of it that often, but I have listened to music on it and the sound qualitiy is pretty good (for a reader). I love the fact I can take it anywhere w/me. I have dowloaded and read just about 90 books so far and I don't know what I would have done if those were paperbacks!
They had a sale going on at Borders for 100 off so I bought 2 more, one in case something happens to my reader and one for my sister in Las Vegas. I am soooo happy with it.

Digital camera Review: Almost excellent
Summary: 4 Stars

I got my ebook 4 days back, just before a business trip. I quickly registered with the Sony site, bought 3 books, loaded them, some MP3 tunes and some photos of the family (including the cats) and off I went. I sat in the plane for two hours simultaneously listening to my music and reading - and it was fantastic - same for the return flight.

It seems some people just don't understand the electronic ink thing. You HAVE TO have a useful light source to read - just like a real book (surprisingly). On plane the overhead light was perfect and I had no issues with the contrast. So I'm delighted with the ebook.

So far, battery life has been excellent.

The reason for 4 stars?
1) The Sony CONNECT web site for buying books is pretty awful. It works, but it's a very poor cousin to the Amazon or iTunes site
2) The screen could be a bit larger. It's like a small paperback and would be perfect is it was half an inch larger.
3) It would be great if I could pause the music while in the reading mode. Maybe I missed it, but it seems I have to go back to the audio section to do this.

Summary: If you read fair amount but a) don't want to carry around bulky books and b) do something for environment and save a tree or two being cut down so you can read a book once or twice, buy the Sony ereader.

Digital camera Review: Amazing
Summary: 5 Stars

I didn't know what to expect when I bought the Sony e-book reader, but I've been nothing short of amazed. I don't have a great deal of storage space in my apartment and since I live abroad, obtaining books in English isn't that easy. The battery life is just as advertised. I just finished a book that was about 4000 pages on the reader and used half the battery life (which was actually a little better than advertised).

I had issues with the iTunes-like ebook store to start with, but I think that had something to do with my internet provider. Other than that I have had no issues at all. The 100 free classic ebooks that came with the item was a great deal, and I haven't had any issues finding books I want to read. The quality of the ebooks has been fairly decent as well. I've run into a few problems with some of the ebook conversions spacing out words here and there, but I assume this is an issue with all ebook formats.

All in all, great product. I've already purchased two more as birthday presents!

Digital camera Review: Amazing Little Gadget
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a bookworm and always have a book with me. I've been known to pull it out and read while standing in line at the grocery store. This digital reader allows me to carry even the heaviest hard cover new-release with me without throwing out by back! I love it. Its easy to read, operate, download books. The Sony eBook store is easy to shop at. I give this product at least 5 stars!!
