Digital camera reviews of Sony PRS-505/LC Blue Digital Book ReaderDigital camera Review: Awesome Invention! Summary: 4 Stars
This is such a brilliant ideal. I said for the longest I wanted to read more, this is just the device I needed so there are no excuses for not being able to have a book with me that I'm interested in. I can have several of my own picks. Not cumbersom, heavy or hard to take everywhere you go. I love it so far.
Digital camera Review: Awesome! Summary: 5 Stars
This little reader simply rocks! I started out w/ the prs-500 - and have since given that one to my girlfriend/upgraded to the prs-505 - she enjoys reading books on it just as much as I do..
This 'book' is small, lightweight, and doesn't require holding the pages down when reading (i.e. when reading at lunch/etc..). It's a nice looking package too, especially compared to the Amazon's ugly offerring.
Digital camera Review: Be careful which Amazon supplier you purchase from. Summary: 4 Stars
I live the PRS 505, but am returning it because I need a larger screen for my business docs. Amazon used Ace Photo and Digital as the supplier, and they only have a 15 day return policy as opposed to Amazon's 30 days. So, guess what, it cost me 15% plus the original shipping amount to return the unit. Be very careful which Amazon supplier you purchase from.
Digital camera Review: Best e reader on the market Summary: 5 Stars
I just received my ereader and am very impressed with it's compact size, long battery life, and the extensive number of books that are available for download. I both travel and read a great deal. This will be easy to travel with, and reduce the the need for shelf space for traditional books in my home.
Sony is building an e-reader site for Borders books in early 08. I have no idea when it will officially launch.
This is highly recommended.
Digital camera Review: Best reader in everyway Summary: 5 Stars
First of all, it was extremelly dificult to to find the product in the amazon.com site. I searched as "Sony Reader PRS-505" and couldnt find it. I imagine that Amazon doesn't want competition with the Kindle.
After extensive research and reading of product comparisons, I decided to buy the Sony vs the Kindle and I am pretty happy. The support of PDF files is clearly a big advantage. The fact that you can sincronize from the PC (ala iPod+iTunes) makes it a very attractive usage model. The Kindle is bulkier and unless you want to make extensive annotations in ebooks, the keyboard is a feature I can live without if I get a sleeker and lighter device.
The ebook store works reasonable well. differently to the iTunes store, it is blocked in some corporate intranets, but nevertheless, the store is pretty friendly. One feature I love is that you can donwnload your books as many times as you want, given that only 6 devices are authorized at the same time.
Some people will pick one vs the other considering different elements. Available titles (Sony nor Amazon have disclosed figures re: number of readers sold or number of titles in the catalog, but I assue amazon has an advantage) vs a cooler (and in my view) a better design in the Sony reader (something recognized by the Amazon staff, when they tried to make it very hard for you to find and buy the Sony reader in amazon.com).
I would love Amazon to offer support for both devices, this will greatly move us towards a standarization of the ebook formats. As with MP3, I don't see any reason why both devices can't support both formats, but only time will tell. In the meantime, I will enjoy my Sony reader waiting for a BIOS update that allows me to buy ebooks from amazon.com
