Unfortunately this unit does not work with our system (not sure why) The support team tried at first to help but now choose not to respond to our needs. So! This item sucks, Sony Sucks and we will not be purchasing anything else from amazon or Sony. Thanks For Nothing! It was a $300.00 dollar mistake. Shame on you guys.

If you are an avid reader but dislike having the clutter of the now 'used' books and the high price of their purchase, then this is the thing for you. The screen is the size of the actual book page and the cost of downloading the library of books is a fraction of the cost that you would pay for each book. The e-library is extensive with new titles being added regularly. I gave this for a gift and receive thanks and praise for, "the most fabulous gift ever received".
You must have a computer that can run Windows in order to download library. The only negative thing, and it is temporary, is that presently it is not MAC compatible.
Highly recommend this product!!!!!!!!

- Crashed on me several times when tried to open a book (did not always crash again when reopened the same book after the boot)
The ugly:
- PDF does not look so great.
- No html view - I had to use calibre (which is great) to convert, not with 100% success.
- I wish the file format was open standard.

I received this item as a gift this year, not even knowing something like this existed. I surely would have paid the $299 myself for such a great product. The screen is really easy on your eyes, looking so close to a real book you may find yourself reaching for the corner to flip the page! It is compact and no heavier than a paperback novel. It fits into my purse and I take it everywhere I go no, always having a book on hand (1000's of books actually) for the unexpected wait in line, or trip to the doctors office. I even downloaded my favorite magazines and newspapers!
I bring it to work and read on my breaks. Every one of my co-workers has asked me what it is, and where they can get one for themselves! A must have for the avid reader!

I'm very happy with this product, i'm looking for this kind of device since a while, i tried, palmtops, psp (with hack ebookr), archos devices, netbooks, like asus eee, but none are really good.
Battery life is trully amazing, one week, reading a book, and battery status, remains full, image quality is very crisp, and yes, prs-505 don't have backlit, you need a source of light to read at night, exact like a REAL BOOK, its a joy can read my favorite books at the beach.
My only complain was about pdf files, but sony release a firware upgrade:
-Support for EPUB file format
-Support for Adobe® Digital Editions 1.5 or later and Adobe DRM-protected content
-Enables text within PDF eBooks to be "reflowed". This will enlarge the text and improve the readability of text-based PDF's
-Support for SDHC memory cards that have a capacity of more than 4 GB
-Delete eBooks directly on device
-General fixes to improve stability and performance
PDF Problem solved!
